(1) When Abram was 99 years old, God appeared to Abram and said, “I am El Shaddai. Walk with Me and be innocent. (2) I will establish My covenant between Me and you, and I will make your family massive.” (3) Abram bowed on the ground; and God said more to him, (4) “As for Me, this is My covenant with you: You shall be the father of a many nations. (5) And your name is no longer 'Abram,' but your name is 'Abraham,' for I make you the father of a many nations."
(15) And God said to Abraham, “Sarai, your wife, will no longer be named 'Sarai.' Her name will be 'Sarah.'
(16) I will bless her; indeed, I will give you a son with her. I will bless her so that she shall give rise to nations; rulers of peoples shall be her children.”
(17) Abraham bowed and laughed, as he said to himself, “Can a baby be born to a 100 year old man, or can Sarah have a baby at 90?”
(18) And Abraham said to God, “O that Ishmael, Hagar and my son, might be so lucky!”
(19) God said, “Nevertheless, Sarah your wife shall have a son, and you shall name him Isaac; and I will continue My covenant with him as an eternal covenant for his children to come.
(20) As for Ishmael, I have heard you. I bless him. I will make a great family for him. He shall be the father of twelve chiefs, and I will make him a great nation.
(21) But My covenant I will continue with Isaac, who Sarah will give birth to at this time next year.”
