(1) Sarai, Abram’s wife, could not have children. She had an Egyptian servant whose name was Hagar.
(2) And Sarai said to Abram, “Look, God has kept me from having children. Go to my maid; perhaps I shall have strength through her.” And Abram listened to Sarai.
(3) So Sarai, Abram’s wife, took her servant, Hagar the Egyptian—after Abram had lived in the land of Canaan for ten years—and gave her to her husband Abram as a wife.
(4) He loved Hagar and she got pregnant; and when Hagar saw that she was pregnant, Sarai seemed less important to her.
(5) And Sarai said to Abram, “The way she sees me is your fault! I gave my servant to you; now she sees that she is pregnant, I am less important to her. Let God decide who should handle this: you or me!”
(6) Abram said to Sarai, “She is your servant. Deal with her the way you think is right.” Then Sarai was mean to Hagar, and she ran away from Sarai.
