(1) The Israelites arrived in a body at the wilderness of Zin on the first new moon, and the people stayed at Kadesh. Miriam died there and was buried there.

AND THERE WAS NO WATER FOR THE CONGREGATION — Since this statement follows immediately after the mention of Miriam’s death, we may learn from it that during the entire forty years they had the “well” through Miriam’s merit (Taanit 9a).

(2) The was not water to the community, and they gathered upon Moses and Aaron.

(ז) מַ֣יִם רַבִּ֗ים לֹ֤א יֽוּכְלוּ֙ לְכַבּ֣וֹת אֶת־הָֽאַהֲבָ֔ה וּנְהָר֖וֹת לֹ֣א יִשְׁטְפ֑וּהָ אִם־יִתֵּ֨ן אִ֜ישׁ אֶת־כׇּל־ה֤וֹן בֵּיתוֹ֙ בָּאַהֲבָ֔ה בּ֖וֹז יָב֥וּזוּ לֽוֹ׃ {ס}

(7) Many waters cannot quench the Love, and rivers cannot engulf it. If a person gave all riches in his home in/for love, He would surely be called a fool.

We come from the water, living in the water go back to the water, turn the world around

~Harry Belefonte

(8) “You and your brother Aaron take the rod and assemble the community, and before their very eyes speak to the rock/cliff to give its water. Thus you shall cause water to go out from the rock for them and provide drink for the congregation and their animals.”

How did the selah, cliff/rock, have any water to give?

(11) Third, Waters from Ruach Wind. He also engraved and carved in Them: chaos and void, mud and clay; engraved Them as a kind of garden; carved them as a kind of wall, wove them as a kind of ceiling Translation~R' Jill Hammer

(יא) וַיָּ֨רֶם מֹשֶׁ֜ה אֶת־יָד֗וֹ וַיַּ֧ךְ אֶת־הַסֶּ֛לַע בְּמַטֵּ֖הוּ פַּעֲמָ֑יִם וַיֵּצְאוּ֙ מַ֣יִם רַבִּ֔ים וַתֵּ֥שְׁתְּ הָעֵדָ֖ה וּבְעִירָֽם׃ {ס}

(11) And Moses raised his hand and struck the rock/cliff twice with his rod. Out came great/many waters, and the community and their beasts drank.

From Hakotel, by Joel Engel, 1923
There are people - with a heart of stone.
There are stones - with a human heart
(6) Let me be a seal upon your heart, Like the seal upon your hand. For love is fierce as death, Passion is mighty as Sheol; Its darts are darts of fire, A blazing flame.

And G!d will give to you from the dew of the heavens (Gen 27:28) As it is written (Job 29:19 My roots opening to reach water and dew lying on my branches. Job said ...what is the meaning of "my roots opening to reach water?" Jacob said "upon my hands there was for me immersion in Torah, which is likened to water I merited to be blessed with dew, as it is said "And G!d will give to you from the dew of Heaven"

MUST WE BRING [WATER] OUT OF THIS ROCK? — They said this because they could not distinguish it (the rock intended by God), for the rock from which the water had until now flowed during these forty years had vanished and taken a place amongst the other rocks when the “well” disappeared after Miriam’s death, and Israel said to them, “What difference is it to you from which rock you bring forth water for us?” — It was on this account that he called them המרים — or, “such as would teach (מורים) their teachers” .... (cf. Midrash Tanchuma, Chukat 9).

HaMarim also has the letters of Miriam's name! המרים
