Mishlei 24: תאווה 1x perek • 4x book • 45x Tanach
Chapter 24 begins with a blunt statement: "Do not envy men of evil, and do not crave -- Tis'Av -- to be with them." Overall, this chapter contrasts what you can build in your life if you overcome Taava -- physical craving -- as a goal. Although the word "Taava" itself only appears once in the chapter, the message is fundamental to learning the lessons of the Book of Mishlei.

(1) Do not envy men of evil; Do not crave to be with them;

(13) Eat honey, my child, for it is good; and dripping honeycomb is sweet upon your palate.

(14) Know: that such is knowledge of wisdom for your soul, If you can find it; it has an everlasting outcome and your hope will never be cut off.

(16) Seven times the righteous man falls and gets up, but the wicked are stumble into misfortune.

(19) Do not be associate with evildoers; Do not envy the wicked;

(20) For there is no lasting outcome to evil; The light of the wicked will be extinguished.

(30) I passed by the field of a lazy person, and By the vineyard of a person lacking heart.

(31) Behold, It was all overgrown with thorns; nettles had covered Its surface, And its stone wall was torn down.

(32) I saw this and took it to heart; I saw it and learned a lesson.

(33) A little bit more sleep, a little bit more slumber, A little bit more folding your hands to rest in bed,

(34) Then poverty will come visiting, And your need will come like an armed man.
