(9) Hazael went to meet him, taking with him as a gift forty camel-loads of all the bounty of Damascus. He came and stood before him and said, “Your son, King Ben-hadad of Aram, has sent me to you to ask: Will I recover from this illness?” (10) Elisha said to him, “Go and say to him, ‘You will recover.’ However, the LORD has revealed to me that he will die.”
Say to him: Tell him that he will survive in order to comfort him, but the truth that God showed me through prophecy is that he will surely die.
He will recover with record to this illness; however he will die of another cause, because in fact Hazael killed him
He will recover from the illness...but the Lord has shown me that he will be killed. Thus, when Elisha informed Hazael that he would be king over Aram, and he said, "The Lord has shown me that he will certainly die", Hazael understood that he wished to inform him that Hazael should assassinate Ben-Hadad, but he didn't say it explicitly.
(14) Elijah answered, “I am moved by zeal for the LORD, the God of Hosts; for the Israelites have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and have put Your prophets to the sword. I alone am left, and they are out to take my life.” (15) The LORD said to him, “Go back by the way you came, [and] on to the wilderness of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael as king of Aram. (16) Also anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king of Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah to succeed you as prophet. (17) Whoever escapes the sword of Hazael shall be slain by Jehu, and whoever escapes the sword of Jehu shall be slain by Elisha.
