Therefore, man should leave the house of his father and mother and cling to his wife and become one flesh.
THEREFORE A MAN LEAVETH — The Divine Spirit says this, thus prohibiting immoral relationship to the “Sons of Noah” also (Sanhedrin 57b).
ONE FLESH — Both parents are united in the child.
This is without reason, for domesticated and wild animals also become one flesh through their children. In my view animals do not cleave to their sexual partners; the male approaches any female it finds and then leaves.
For this reason the text says since the female of the adam was a bone of his bones and flesh of his flesh, he cleaved to her and she was in his bosom like his own flesh and he desired her to be constantly with him. As this was so with Adam so was his nature transmitted to his progeny, to make the males, cleaving to their females, leaving their fathers and mothers and regarding their wives as if they were one flesh with them.
...and so will leave the “meat” of his father and his mother and their closeness and see that his wife is closer to him than they are.
Therefore, after this at the beginning since Hashem created Eve similar to man as much as possible, until she came from his body.
Abandon his father and mother and cling to his wife... fitting for a man to marry a woman appropriate for him and cling to her, also that he has to leave his father and mother, because they cannot truly cling without being similar, but not only to be similar, but to have a united mind.
And they should become like one flesh... they have intent in all of their actions to arrives at perfection like when they were created, as if both were really one.
...Therefore, man abandons... and clings to his wife. From here and forward, the advice was not that she should be a helpmate opposite him as planned originally.
Unless it's like this, that he abandons his father and mother and clings to his wife, then they will be one flesh, and he will love her as if they are one.
Like it says, man should love his wife like himself, and also then she will not be secondary at all, like the first woman that was considered a part of man, that is she is one flesh.
And just like he thinks what's good for himself and wants to go after his own will, so too he considers her good and how to fulfill her will.
However, from the first moment, that it was made in nature that she should remain his helper, even though this was only the way it was created in the first moment.
And this is included in the creation of the world on the sixth day, only he who is worthy arrives at the love of his wife at complete selflessness, like Chava before the sin.
And because of this, it's divided into two parts, the clinging of Adam and Chava, for generations there would be two ways of man to love his wife, just like there are two ways for man to serve Hashem.
And this was all included in the first day of creation like I explained above.
Therefore, man should abandon... There are those that explain that these are Moshe's words, not Adam's, but the correct approach is that Adam said them, and he know that he would bear children and populate the world like the rest of creation.
And the interpretation is close to the translation, it does not say that man should leave his father and mother because of his wife, that he shouldn't serve them and honor them according to his ability, rather, he leaves the generation that his parents raised him and clings to his wife and the new generation in one home.
And they should be one flesh, that is, one flesh and one body, because the first woman was created from man himself and his flesh, and they were one flesh, and they cling forever one to another, like one flesh and from both the species continues.
...Therefore, just like man was called at the beginning man on account of the ground, that this was his father and mother from which he was created, and only afterwards he became Ish (man)...
Abandoned his father and his mother, that is the ground and he is no longer called Adam, only called Ish, this was the name to join with Isha, because then he was given a wife to help him
So too, every person in their birth clings to their father and mother, and when he grows up the man leaves his father and mother and takes a wife to build a faithful home with her and cling to her, because she is his friend and helps him, and they become like one flesh to raise offspring.
Therefore, because, as long as the man was alone, it was not yet good, and because after the division it is no longer possible for the man to fulfill his destiny alone, because much more the woman should be with him, he feels half without a wife, and only feels in union with his wife as a whole person: therefore the man leaves father and mother and unites with his wife, and they become a body.
As originally the human body was divided into a spirit, a divine will subordinate itself, so also after the reunification man and woman become a body.
But they can only become so if at the same time they become a mind, a heart, a soul, and this is again only possible if they give all their strength and endeavors, all their thinking and will to a higher will in the fulfillment of his service. subordinate.
- But this also gives the deep distinction of the sexual life of all other living beings of human marriage. The rest of the living world is also sexually divided. Only both sexes originate from the earth at the same time. They do not need each other for the fulfillment of their destiny, and only for the purpose of the genus and for the time taken by them do they find each other.
The human wife, however, is a part of the human man, is Ezer Kengdu. The man is helpless and dependent on his wife. Both together are only human. Life in its full significance demands its union.
(2) The wise men find (Sanhedrin 56 f.) In this sentence at the same time already the beginning of the incest laws for the sons of Noah. By saying: therefore the husband leaves his father and his mother and unites with his wife, at the same time recognizing the stipulation that in choosing his wife the husband should distance himself from father and mother, so as not to be too closely related Have to look for wife.
We perceive this as a whole due to the causal connection that has been introduced, so that perhaps some twilight may thus fall on the so dark area of the laws of incest. For the wife's wife should be the husband's, it must be against him; because it is supposed to complement it, it must have other peculiarities. In close relationship they both have perhaps the same virtues, but also perhaps the same flaws, the same perfections, but also the same shortcomings; their union would only strengthen both peculiarities in good and evil, not complement them.
Only in distant degrees should the wholesome varieties be present, which both unite to form a perfect being, to become perfectly suited to one flesh, and to solve a great human task purer and fuller.
