Praying in Times of Distress

(1) A song of ascending.

Out of the depths I call You, Hashem.

(2) My Lord, hear my voice;

may Your ears be attentive

to the sound of my pleas.

(3) If You retain iniquities, Hashem,

My Lord, who could endure?

(4) Forgiveness is with You

so that You may be held in awe.

(5) I hope in Hashem; my soul hopes,

and awaits His word.

(6) My soul [awaits] my Lord more than the watchmen [await] morning,

the watchmen [await] morning.

(7) Israel, await Hashem;

for love is with Hashem

and great redemption is with Him.

(8) He will indeed redeem Israel

from all their iniquities.

True and firm

certain and enduring

upright and faithful

beloved and cherished

desired and pleasant,

awesome and mighty,

established and accepted,

good and beautiful

is this [affirmation] upon us for all time.
