(א) לְדָוִ֨ד ׀ יהוה ׀ אוֹרִ֣י וְ֭יִשְׁעִי מִמִּ֣י אִירָ֑א
יהוה מָֽעוֹז־חַ֝יַּ֗י מִמִּ֥י אֶפְחָֽד׃
(ב) בִּקְרֹ֤ב עָלַ֨י ׀ מְרֵעִים֮ לֶאֱכֹ֪ל אֶת־בְּשָׂ֫רִ֥י צָרַ֣י וְאֹיְבַ֣י לִ֑י הֵ֖מָּה כָשְׁל֣וּ וְנָפָֽלוּ׃
(ג) אִם־תַּחֲנֶ֬ה עָלַ֨י ׀ מַחֲנֶה֮ לֹֽא־יִירָ֪א לִ֫בִּ֥י אִם־תָּק֣וּם עָ֭לַי מִלְחָמָ֑ה בְּ֝זֹ֗את אֲנִ֣י בוֹטֵֽחַ׃
(ד) אַחַ֤ת ׀ שָׁאַ֣לְתִּי מֵֽאֵת־יהוה אוֹתָ֪הּ אֲבַ֫קֵּ֥שׁ שִׁבְתִּ֣י בְּבֵית־יהוה כָּל־יְמֵ֣י חַיַּ֑י לַחֲז֥וֹת בְּנֹֽעַם־יהוה וּלְבַקֵּ֥ר בְּהֵיכָלֽוֹ׃
(ה) כִּ֤י יִצְפְּנֵ֨נִי ׀ בְּסֻכֹּה֮ בְּי֪וֹם רָ֫עָ֥ה יַ֭סְתִּרֵנִי בְּסֵ֣תֶר אָהֳל֑וֹ בְּ֝צ֗וּר יְרוֹמְמֵֽנִי׃
(ו) וְעַתָּ֨ה יָר֪וּם רֹאשִׁ֡י עַ֤ל אֹֽיְבַ֬י סְֽבִיבוֹתַ֗י וְאֶזְבְּחָ֣ה בְ֭אָהֳלוֹ זִבְחֵ֣י תְרוּעָ֑ה אָשִׁ֥ירָה וַ֝אֲזַמְּרָ֗ה לַיהוה׃
(ז) שְׁמַע־יהוה קוֹלִ֥י אֶקְרָ֗א וְחָנֵּ֥נִי וַעֲנֵֽנִי׃
(ח) לְךָ֤ ׀ אָמַ֣ר לִ֭בִּי בַּקְּשׁ֣וּ פָנָ֑י אֶת־פָּנֶ֖יךָ יהוה אֲבַקֵּֽשׁ׃
(ט) אַל־תַּסְתֵּ֬ר פָּנֶ֨יךָ ׀ מִמֶּנִּי֮ אַֽל־תַּט־בְּאַ֗ף עַ֫בְדֶּ֥ךָ עֶזְרָתִ֥י הָיִ֑יתָ אַֽל־תִּטְּשֵׁ֥נִי וְאַל־תַּֽ֝עַזְבֵ֗נִי אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׁעִֽי׃
(י) כִּי־אָבִ֣י וְאִמִּ֣י עֲזָב֑וּנִי וַֽיהוה יַֽאַסְפֵֽנִי׃
(יא) ה֤וֹרֵ֥נִי יהוה דַּ֫רְכֶּ֥ךָ וּ֭נְחֵנִי בְּאֹ֣רַח מִישׁ֑וֹר לְ֝מַ֗עַן שׁוֹרְרָֽי׃
(יב) אַֽל־תִּ֭תְּנֵנִי בְּנֶ֣פֶשׁ צָרָ֑י כִּ֥י קָֽמוּ־בִ֥י עֵֽדֵי־שֶׁ֝֗קֶר וִיפֵ֥חַ חָמָֽס׃
(יג) לׅׄוּלֵׅׄ֗אׅׄ הֶ֭אֱמַנְתִּי לִרְא֥וֹת בְּֽטוּב־יהוה בְּאֶ֣רֶץ חַיִּֽים׃
(יד) קַוֵּ֗ה אֶל־יהוה חֲ֭זַק וְיַאֲמֵ֣ץ לִבֶּ֑ךָ וְ֝קַוֵּ֗ה אֶל־יהוה׃
(1) For David:
The Lord is my light and my salvation; from whom should I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life, whom should I dread?
(2) When evildoers come close to me to devour my flesh, — it is they, my torturers and my enemies, who stumble and fall.
(3) Should a camp encamp upon me, my heart would have no fear;
should war arise upon me, in this I trust.
(4) There is one thing I haved asked of the Lord, and this is what I will seek: to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord, to visit God's abode.
(5) For God will shelter me in God's sukkah on an evil day, will hide me under the cover of God's tent, will raise me upon a rock.
(6) Now my head is raised high over my enemies who are all around me; I will offer up teruah blasts in God's tent. I will sing and chant to the Eternal.
(7) Hear my voice, Eternal One, when I call out; show grace upon me and answer me.
(8) To You my heart said: “Seek My face!” O Lord, I seek Your face.
(9) Do not hide Your face from me; do not thrust aside Your servant in anger; You have ever been my help. Do not forsake me, do not abandon me, O God of my salvation.
(10) Though my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will gather me in.
(11) Show me Your way, O Lord, and guide me down a steady path, because of my watchful foes.
(12) Do not give life over to my torturers, for false witnesses and violent accusers have risen up against me.
(13) Had I not had faith that that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living…
(14) Hope in the Lord - strengthen and encourage your heart - and hope in the Lord.
רבנן פתרי קראי בראש השנה ויום הכפורים. אורי בראש השנה. וישעי ביום הכפורים.
The rabbis intepreted this verse as referring to Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur. 'my light,' on Rosh Hashanah. 'And my salvation ,' on Yom Kippur. '
היראה הוא מדבר ידוע והפחד הוא מדבר בלתי ידוע
Yirah is from a known thing, and Pachad is from something unknown.
(1) For my father and my mother have forsaken me At the time of coitus, they intended only their own pleasure. As soon as their pleasure is over, this one turns his face this way and that one turns her face the other way. (2) but the Lord gathers me in The Holy Blessed One guards the droplet and forms the fetus.
(1) Had I not believed in seeing, etc. If I had not believed in the Holy Blessed One, those false witnesses would have already risen against me and destroyed me. [The word] לולא is punctuated which our Sages interpreted as follows (Ber. 4a): I know that You give reward to the righteous in the world to come, but I do not know whether I have a share with them or not.
Rabbi Ḥama, son of Rabbi Ḥanina, said: A person who prayed and saw that they were not answered, should pray again, as it is stated: “Hope in the Lord - strengthen and encourage your heart - and hope in the Lord.” (Psalms 27:14).
