(ד) הַשִּׁיר שֶׁהָיוּ הַלְוִיִּם אוֹמְרִים בַּמִּקְדָּשׁ,
בַּיּוֹם הָרִאשׁוֹן הָיוּ אוֹמְרִים (תהילים כ״ד:א׳), לַה' הָאָרֶץ וּמְלוֹאָהּ תֵּבֵל וְיֹשְׁבֵי בָהּ. ....
בְּשַׁבָּת הָיוּ אוֹמְרִים (שם צב), מִזְמוֹר שִׁיר לְיוֹם הַשַּׁבָּת, מִזְמוֹר שִׁיר לֶעָתִיד לָבֹא, לְיוֹם שֶׁכֻּלּוֹ שַׁבָּת מְנוּחָה לְחַיֵּי הָעוֹלָמִים:
(4) The song that the Levites would recite in the Temple:
On the first day they would recite: "...The earth is the Hashem's and all it contains, the world and all who live in it.” (Psalms 24) ...
On Shabbat they would recite: “A psalm, a song for Shabbat day.” (Psalms 92) A psalm, a song for the future to come, for a day that will be entirely a Shabbat of rest for everlasting life.
(א) מִזְמ֥וֹר שִׁ֗יר לְי֣וֹם הַשַּׁבָּֽת׃
(ב) ט֗וֹב לְהֹד֥וֹת לַה'
וּלְזַמֵּ֖ר לְשִׁמְךָ֣ עֶלְיֽוֹן׃
(ג) לְהַגִּ֣יד בַּבֹּ֣קֶר חַסְֽדֶּ֑ךָ
וֶ֝אֱמֽוּנָתְךָ֗ בַּלֵּילֽוֹת׃
(ד) עֲֽלֵי־עָ֭שׂוֹר וַעֲלֵי־נָ֑בֶל
עֲלֵ֖י הִגָּי֣וֹן בְּכִנּֽוֹר׃
(ה) כִּ֤י שִׂמַּחְתַּ֣נִי ה' בְּפָעֳלֶ֑ךָ
בְּֽמַעֲשֵׂ֖י יָדֶ֣יךָ אֲרַנֵּֽן׃
(ו) מַה־גָּדְל֣וּ מַעֲשֶׂ֣יךָ ה'
מְ֝אֹ֗ד עָמְק֥וּ מַחְשְׁבֹתֶֽיךָ׃
(ז) אִֽישׁ־בַּ֭עַר לֹ֣א יֵדָ֑ע
וּ֝כְסִ֗יל לֹא־יָבִ֥ין אֶת־זֹֽאת׃
(1) A psalm, a song for the day of Shabbat:
(2) It is good to give thanks to Hashem,
to sing to Your name, You who are most high.
(3) To speak of your compassion in the morning,
of your faithfulness at night.
(4) On the ten-string instrument and on the lute,
with the resounding music of the harp.
(5) For your work has gladdened me, Hashem,
I sing joyfully at the work of Your hands.
(6) How great are Your works, Hashem!
how deep are Your intentions.
(7) A crude person does not know,
and a fool does not understand this.
(ח) בִּפְרֹ֤חַ רְשָׁעִ֨ים ׀ כְּמ֥וֹ־עֵ֗שֶׂב
וַ֭יָּצִיצוּ כׇּל־פֹּ֣עֲלֵי אָ֑וֶן
לְהִשָּׁמְדָ֥ם עֲדֵי־עַֽד׃
(ט) וְאַתָּ֥ה מָר֗וֹם לְעֹלָ֥ם ה'׃
(י) כִּ֤י הִנֵּ֪ה אֹיְבֶ֡יךָ ה'
כִּֽי־הִנֵּ֣ה אֹיְבֶ֣יךָ יֹאבֵ֑דוּ
יִ֝תְפָּרְד֗וּ כׇּל־פֹּ֥עֲלֵי אָֽוֶן׃
(יא) וַתָּ֣רֶם כִּרְאֵ֣ים קַרְנִ֑י
בַּ֝לֹּתִ֗י בְּשֶׁ֣מֶן רַעֲנָֽן׃
(יב) וַתַּבֵּ֥ט עֵינִ֗י בְּשׁ֫וּרָ֥י
בַּקָּמִ֖ים עָלַ֥י מְרֵעִ֗ים תִּשְׁמַ֥עְנָה אׇזְנָֽי׃
(יג) צַ֭דִּיק כַּתָּמָ֣ר יִפְרָ֑ח
כְּאֶ֖רֶז בַּלְּבָנ֣וֹן יִשְׂגֶּֽה׃
(יד) שְׁ֭תוּלִים בְּבֵ֣ית ה'
בְּחַצְר֖וֹת אֱלֹקֵ֣ינוּ יַפְרִֽיחוּ׃
(טו) ע֭וֹד יְנוּב֣וּן בְּשֵׂיבָ֑ה
דְּשֵׁנִ֖ים וְֽרַעֲנַנִּ֣ים יִהְיֽוּ׃
(טז) לְ֭הַגִּיד כִּֽי־יָשָׁ֣ר ה'
צ֝וּרִ֗י וְֽלֹא־עַוְלָ֥תָה בּֽוֹ׃
(8) As the wicked sprout like grass
and all evildoers blossom
to be destroyed forever.
(9) And You Hashem are on high for all
time.
(10) For, behold, Your enemies, Hashem,
behold, Your enemies perish;
all evildoers are scattered.
(11) And You raise my horn like a wild ox;
I am soaked in freshening oil.
(12) And I see my foes;
when those who cause harm rise up against me, my ear hears:
(13) The righteous bloom like a date-palm;
they thrive like a cedar in Lebanon;
(14) planted in the house of Hashem,
they flourish in the courts of our God.
(15) They still produce fruit in old age,
full of sap and vital,
(16) saying that Hashem is upright,
my Bedrock, in whom there is no flaw.
It is taught [in a baraita]: Rabbi Yehuda says in the name of Rabbi Akiva: On the first, what would they [the Levites] recite? “The earth is the Hashem's, and its fullness” (Psalms 24), because He acquired [the world] and transferred it [to humanity], and was ruler in His world. On the second, what would they recite? “Great is Hashem, and highly praised” (Psalms 48), because He separated His works and ruled over them as King. On the third, they would recite “God stands in the congregation of God” (Psalms 82), because He revealed the land in His wisdom and prepared the world for His assembly. On the fourth, they would recite: “Hashem is a God of vengeance” (Psalms 94), because He created the sun and the moon, and in the future He will punish those who worship them. On the fifth, they would recite: “Sing out to God who is our strength” (Psalms 81), because He created birds and fish to praise His name. On the sixth, they would recite: “Hashem reigns, He is clothed with majesty” (Psalms 93:1), because He completed His labor and ruled over it all. On the seventh, they would recite: “A psalm, a song for the day of Shabbat” (Psalms 92), for a day that is all Shabbat. Rabbi Neḥemya said: What did the Sages see [that led them] to distinguish between these chapters? Rather, On the first, He acquired and transferred and was ruler in His world; on the second, He separated His works and ruled over them; on the third, He revealed the land in His wisdom and prepared the world for His assembly; on the fourth, He created the sun and the moon, and in the future He will punish those who worship them; on the fifth, He created birds and fish to praise His name; on the sixth, He completed His labor and ruled over them; on the seventh, He rested.
