2nd aliyah: The Book of Exodus
Our people is enslaved in Egypt by a Pharaoh who "did not remember Joseph," and their eventual savior is born on the shores of the Nile river. We follow the story of Moses from his infancy through his rise to leadership, as he demands liberation for his people from Pharaoh. The Israelites sing & dance at the shores of the sea, stand at Sinai, and begin a forty year journey that transforms them from a mixed-multitude into a nascent nation.

3rd aliyah: The Book of Leviticus
Through sacrifice, rite and ritual, God invites us to "draw near" and bring the Divine presence close. The Levites and Cohanim (the priestly caste) prepare and activate the mishkan and are taught the intricacies of maintaining sacred balance.
זַךְ וְיָשָׁר, הוֹשִֽׁיעָה נָּא.
חוֹמֵל דַּלִּים, הַצְלִיחָה נָא.
טוֹב וּמֵטִיב, עֲנֵֽנוּ בְיוֹם קָרְאֵֽנוּ.

4th aliyah: The Book of Numbers
Ancient Israel conducts a census as the community continues its journey through the wilderness. The story unfolds as the Israelites encounter other tribes, challenge their own leadership, and scout out the land on the other side of the Jordan River.
יוֹדֵֽעַ מַחֲשָׁבוֹת, הוֹשִֽׁיעָה נָּא.
כַּבִּיר וְנָאוֹר, הַצְלִיחָה נָא.

5th aliyah: The Book of Deuteronomy
Moses delivers his final soliloquy to the people on the shores of the Jordan River. As he concludes, Joshua is inaugurated as the new leader of the people for the next chapter in their story - in the land of that had been promised them so long ago.
מֶֽלֶךְ עוֹלָמִים, הוֹשִֽׁיעָה נָּא.
נָאוֹר וְאַדִּיר, הַצְלִיחָה נָא.

6th aliyah: V'zot HaB'racha - the final words of Torah
At the end of his life, Moses blesses each of the twelve tribes as they prepare to cross the Jordan River. Moses dies at the age of 120 and is laid to rest at on Mount Nebo.

Our story unfolds with the creation of the heavens and the earth, a taming of the primordial chaos.
