The Root of Teshuva: Returning to Our Souls Through Contemplative Practice
Rav Kook says that in order to do teshuva and return to YHVH-God-Beingness, we need to return to the root of our soul. In these last few hours before Neilah when the gates close, we take a deeper dive into teshuva through the spiritual practices of chant, movement, and reflection to reconnect to our souls.

Hevruta Alternative Readings
#1 Rabbi Simcha Buman said to his followers: The sins we commit – that’s not the great crime. After all, temptation is great and our strength is small! Our great crime is that we can turn at every moment, and we do not!

#2 Rav Kook wrote: Teshuvah emerges from the depths of being, from such great depths in which the individual stands not as a separate entity, but rather as a continuation of the vastness of universal existence. The desire for teshuvah is related to the universal will, to its highest source. From the moment the mighty stream for the universal will for life turns toward the good, many forces within the whole of existence are stirred to disclose the good and to bestow good to all.
