In Praise of the Creator - Psalm 8

(1) For the leader; on the gitit.

A psalm of David.

(2) Hashem, our Lord,

How majestic is Your name throughout the earth,

You who have cast Your splendor over the heavens!

(3) From the mouths of infants and sucklings

You have founded strength

on account of Your foes,

to put an end to enemy and avenger.

(4) When I behold Your heavens,

the work of Your fingers,

the moon and stars

that You set in place --

(5) What is a mortal that You should remember them,

a human being that You should take note of them,

(6) that You have made them little less than **divine**,

and crowned them with glory and majesty?

(7) You have made them master over Your handiwork,

laying the world at their feet,

(8) sheep and oxen, all of them,

as well as wild beasts;

(9) the birds of the heavens, the fish of the sea,

that which travels the paths of the seas.

(10) Hashem, our Lord,

how majestic is Your name throughout the earth!

(3) Hashem, what is the human being that You should know them,

the mortal that You should think of them? (4) The human being is comparable to breath/emptiness;

their days are like a passing shadow.

(26) And God said, “Let us make the human being in our image, after our likeness. They shall rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the cattle, the whole earth, and all the creeping things that creep on earth.”

(7) Praise Hashem, from the earth,

all sea monsters and ocean depths (Tehomot).

(10) It was you that dried up the Sea (Yam), The waters of the great deep (Tehom);

That made the abysses of the Sea (Yam)

A road the redeemed might walk.

Birds of the sky, fish of the sea,

and the Leviathan that passes through the paths of the sea.
