ומי משתבח קוב"ה בשבחייהו דישראל? אין! דכתיב (דברים כו, יז) את ה' האמרת היום,(וכתיב) וה' האמירך היום. אמר להם הקב"ה לישראל אתם עשיתוני חטיבה אחת בעולם ואני אעשה אתכם חטיבה אחת בעולם. אתם עשיתוני חטיבה אחת בעולם שנאמר (דברים ו, ד) שמע ישראל ה' אלהינו ה' אחד ואני,אעשה אתכם חטיבה אחת בעולם שנאמר ומי כעמך ישראל גוי אחד בארץ

אמר ליה רב אחא בריה דרבא,לרב אשי תינח בחד ביתא בשאר בתי מאי א"ל (דברים ד, ז) כי מי גוי גדול ומי גוי גדול (דברים לג, כט) אשריך ישראל (דברים ד, לד) או הנסה אלהים (דברים כו, יט),ולתתך עליון אי הכי נפישי להו טובי בתי אלא כי מי גוי גדול ומי גוי גדול דדמיין להדדי בחד ביתא,אשריך ישראל ומי כעמך

R. Abin son of R. Ada in the name of R. Isaac says [further]: How do you know that the Holy
One, blessed be He, puts on tefillin? For it is said: The Lord hath sworn by His right hand, and by the arm of His strength (Isa. 62, 8.) ‘By His right hand’: this is the Torah; for it is said: At His right hand was a fiery law unto them (Deut. 33, 2.) ‘And by the arm of his strength’: this is the tefillin; as it is said: The Lord will give strength unto His people (Ps. 29, 11.)

And how do you know that the tefillin are a strength to Israel? For it is written: And all the peoples of the earth shall see that the name of the Lord is called upon thee, and they shall be afraid of thee (Deut. 28, 10,) and it has been taught: R. Eliezer the Great says: This refers to the tefillin of the head.

R. Nahman b. Isaac said to R. Hiyya b. Abin: What is written in the tefillin of the Lord of the
Universe? — He replied to him: And who is like Thy people Israel, a nation one in the earth (I Chron. 17, 21.)

Does, then, the Holy One, blessed be He, sing the praises of Israel? — Yes, for it is written: Thou hast avouched the Lord this day . . . and the Lord hath avouched thee this day (Deut. 26: 17, 18.) The Holy One, Blessed be He, said to Israel: You have made me a unique entity in the world, and I shall make you a unique entity in the world. ‘You have made me a unique entity in the world’, as it is said: Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one (Deut. 6, 4.) ‘And I shall make you a unique entity in the world’, as it is said: And who is like Thy people Israel, a nation one in the earth.

R. Aha b. Raba said to R. Ashi: This accounts for one case, what about the other cases? — He replied to him: [They contain the following verses]: For what great nation is there, etc. And what great nation is there, etc. (Deut. 4, 7, 8;) Happy art thou, O Israel, etc. (Ibid. 33, 29); Or hath God assayed, etc. (Ibid. 4, 34;) and To make thee high above all nations ( Ibid. 26, 19.) If so, there would be too many cases? —

Hence [you must say]: For what great nation is there, and And what great nation is there, which are similar, are in one case; Happy art thou, O Israel, and Who is like Thy people, in one case; Or hath God assayed, in one case; and To make thee high, in one case.

And all these verses are written on [the tefillin of] His arm.

(א) לְמַעַן צִיּוֹן לֹא אֶחֱשֶׁה וּלְמַעַן יְרוּשָׁלַ‍ִם לֹא אֶשְׁקוֹט עַד יֵצֵא כַנֹּגַהּ צִדְקָהּ וִישׁוּעָתָהּ כְּלַפִּיד יִבְעָר. (ב) וְרָאוּ גוֹיִם צִדְקֵךְ וְכָל מְלָכִים כְּבוֹדֵךְ וְקֹרָא לָךְ שֵׁם חָדָשׁ אֲשֶׁר פִּי יקוק יִקֳּבֶנּוּ. (ג) וְהָיִיתְ עֲטֶרֶת תִּפְאֶרֶת בְּיַד יקוק וצנוף [וּצְנִיף] מְלוּכָה בְּכַף אֱלֹהָיִךְ. (ד) לֹא יֵאָמֵר לָךְ עוֹד עֲזוּבָה וּלְאַרְצֵךְ לֹא יֵאָמֵר עוֹד שְׁמָמָה כִּי לָךְ יִקָּרֵא חֶפְצִי בָהּ וּלְאַרְצֵךְ בְּעוּלָה כִּי חָפֵץ יקוק בָּךְ וְאַרְצֵךְ תִּבָּעֵל. (ה) כִּי יִבְעַל בָּחוּר בְּתוּלָה יִבְעָלוּךְ בָּנָיִךְ וּמְשׂוֹשׂ חָתָן עַל כַּלָּה יָשִׂישׂ עָלַיִךְ אֱלֹהָיִךְ. (ו) עַל חוֹמֹתַיִךְ יְרוּשָׁלַ‍ִם הִפְקַדְתִּי שֹׁמְרִים כָּל הַיּוֹם וְכָל הַלַּיְלָה תָּמִיד לֹא יֶחֱשׁוּ הַמַּזְכִּרִים אֶת יקוק אַל דֳּמִי לָכֶם. (ז) וְאַל תִּתְּנוּ דֳמִי לוֹ עַד יְכוֹנֵן וְעַד יָשִׂים אֶת יְרוּשָׁלַ‍ִם תְּהִלָּה בָּאָרֶץ. (ח) נִשְׁבַּע יקוק בִּימִינוֹ וּבִזְרוֹעַ עֻזּוֹ אִם אֶתֵּן אֶת דְּגָנֵךְ עוֹד מַאֲכָל לְאֹיְבַיִךְ וְאִם יִשְׁתּוּ בְנֵי נֵכָר תִּירוֹשֵׁךְ אֲשֶׁר יָגַעַתְּ בּוֹ. (ט) כִּי מְאַסְפָיו יֹאכְלֻהוּ וְהִלְלוּ אֶת יקוק וּמְקַבְּצָיו יִשְׁתֻּהוּ בְּחַצְרוֹת קָדְשִׁי.

(טז) וַיָּבֹא הַמֶּלֶךְ דָּוִיד וַיֵּשֶׁב לִפְנֵי יקוק וַיֹּאמֶר מִי אֲנִי יקוק אֱלֹהִים וּמִי בֵיתִי כִּי הֲבִיאֹתַנִי עַד הֲלֹם. (יז) וַתִּקְטַן זֹאת בְּעֵינֶיךָ אֱלֹהִים וַתְּדַבֵּר עַל בֵּית עַבְדְּךָ לְמֵרָחוֹק וּרְאִיתַנִי כְּתוֹר הָאָדָם הַמַּעֲלָה יקוק אֱלֹהִים. I Chronicles 17:16-22
(16) Then David the king went in, and sat before the LORD; and he said: ‘Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my house, that Thou hast brought me thus far? (17) And this was a small thing in Thine eyes, O God; but Thou hast spoken of Thy servant’s house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me after the manner of a man of high degree, O LORD God. (18) What can David say yet more unto Thee concerning the honour which is done to Thy servant? for Thou knowest Thy servant. (19) O LORD, for Thy servant’s sake, and according to Thine own heart, hast Thou wrought all this greatness, to make known all these great things. (20) O LORD, there is none like Thee, neither is there any God beside Thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears. (21) And who is like Thy people Israel, a nation one in the earth, whom God went to redeem unto Himself for a people, to make Thee a name by great and tremendous things, in driving out nations from before Thy people, whom Thou didst redeem out of Egypt. (22) For Thy people Israel didst Thou make Thine own people for ever; and Thou, LORD, becamest their God.

Deuteronomy 33:26-29
(26) There is none like unto God, O Jeshurun, Who rideth upon the heaven as thy help, And in His excellency on the skies. (27) The eternal God is a dwelling-place, And underneath are the everlasting arms; And He thrust out the enemy from before thee, And said: ‘Destroy.’ (28) And Israel dwelleth in safety, The fountain of Jacob alone, In a land of corn and wine; Yea, his heavens drop down dew. Deuteronomy 4:33-35
(33) Did ever a people hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live? (34) Or hath God assayed to go and take Him a nation from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that the LORD your God did for you in Egypt before thine eyes? (35) Unto thee it was shown, that thou mightiest know that the LORD, He is God; there is none else beside Him.

Deuteronomy 26:16-19
(16) This day the LORD thy God commandeth thee to do these statutes and ordinances; thou shalt therefore observe and do them with all thy heart, and with all thy soul. (17) Thou hast avouched the LORD this day to be thy God, and that thou wouldest walk in His ways, and keep His statutes, and His commandments, and His ordinances, and hearken unto His voice. Hosea 2:21-22
(21) And I will betroth thee unto Me for ever; Yea, I will betroth thee unto Me in righteousness, and in justice, And in lovingkindness, and in compassion. (22) And I will betroth thee unto Me in faithfulness; And thou shalt know the LORD.
