Psalm 2

(1) Why do the nations foment,

and the peoples utter emptiness;

(2) kings of the earth take their stand,

and regents sit (conspire) together

against Hashem and against His anointed (mashiah)?

(3) “Let us break off their fetters,

shake off their ropes from us!”

(4) He who is sits in heaven laughs;

the Lord mocks them.

(5) Then He speaks to them in anger,

terrifying them in His rage,

(6) “But I, I installed My king

on Zion, My holy mountain!”

(7) Let me tell of the decree:

Hashem said to me, “You are My son,

I bore/sired/begot you today.

(8) Ask of Me and I will give the nations

as your inheritance;

your estate - the ends of the earth.

(9) You will break them with an iron staff,

shatter them like a potter’s vessel.”

(10) And now, O kings, be wise;

*be disciplined*, you rulers of the earth!

(11) Serve Hashem in awe;

exult in trembling,

(12) *cling to purity*,

lest He rage and you be lost on the way,

for his wrath flashes in a moment.

Happy are those who shelter in Him.

(6) For only a moment of His wrath,

a lifetime in His favor.

One lies down crying,

in the morning - shouts of joy.

(2) worship Hashem in gladness;

come before Him with with shouts of joy.
