Perception and Reality - Psalm 106

Psalm 106:

"Praise the Lord for He is good.

His kindness is everlasting."

Within the sub-atomic structure, solid mass makes up less than one percent of an atom's size, she explained. The distance between atoms within molecules is sometimes compared to light years between planets. This means that a solid object is mostly empty space.

Light is invisible, but it is needed for our vision to function. When we ‘see’ an optical illusion or mirage, what we think we see is not even there.

Color is our brain’s interpretation of light waves between the frequency of approximately 390 to 700 nm as they bounce off objects and enter our eyes. The color we see is the portion of the light waves that is not absorbed by the object. Therefore, the object we see is actually every color except the color we are seeing.

Light functions simultaneously as a wave and a particle which are two very different things. And the mere act of observing an object will affect the way we perceive it.

The universe consists of subatomic particles flying at high speeds around and through us. Yet, this is different from our sensual perception of the world we experience. Thus, it can be stated that the physical world we perceive through our senses is not all there is.

Just as there are atoms and light waves beyond our ordinary perception there is also the infinite world of loving kindness that God has built for us. This is perceived through our soul rather than our physical senses. And just as we must open our eyes in order to see the physical part of life we must open the gates to our souls to perceive the spiritual.

We may open the gates to our souls by setting aside time to pray, to think, to sing, to dance, to meditate on the meaning of the words that God has brought to us through our sages; to be God's hands on earth as we help each other along the way.

(1) Hallelujah. Praise the LORD for He is good; His steadfast love is eternal. (2) Who can tell the mighty acts of the LORD, proclaim all His praises?
