Mythical Creatures in the Torah
(יא) יָדַעְתִּי כָּל עוֹף הָרִים וְזִיז שָׂדַי עִמָּדִי.
(11) I know all the fowls of the mountains; And the wild beasts of the field are Mine.
(יד) יְכַרְסְמֶנָּה חֲזִיר מִיָּעַר וְזִיז שָׂדַי יִרְעֶנָּה.
(14) The boar out of the wood doth ravage it, That which moveth in the field feedeth on it.
(טו) הִנֵּה נָא בְהֵמוֹת אֲשֶׁר עָשִׂיתִי עִמָּךְ חָצִיר כַּבָּקָר יֹאכֵל. (טז) הִנֵּה נָא כֹחוֹ בְמָתְנָיו וְאֹנוֹ בִּשְׁרִירֵי בִטְנוֹ. (יז) יַחְפֹּץ זְנָבוֹ כְמוֹ אָרֶז גִּידֵי פחדו [פַחֲדָיו] יְשֹׂרָגוּ. (יח) עֲצָמָיו אֲפִיקֵי נְחוּשָׁה גְּרָמָיו כִּמְטִיל בַּרְזֶל. (יט) הוּא רֵאשִׁית דַּרְכֵי אֵל הָעֹשׂוֹ יַגֵּשׁ חַרְבּוֹ. (כ) כִּי בוּל הָרִים יִשְׂאוּ לוֹ וְכָל חַיַּת הַשָּׂדֶה יְשַׂחֲקוּ שָׁם.
(15) Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; He eateth grass as an ox. (16) Lo now, his strength is in his loins, And his force is in the stays of his body. (17) He straineth his tail like a cedar; The sinews of his thighs are knit together. (18) His bones are as pipes of brass; His gristles are like bars of iron. (19) He is the beginning of the ways of God; He only that made him can make His sword to approach unto him. (20) Surely the mountains bring him forth food, And all the beasts of the field play there.

(כו) שָׁם אֳנִיּוֹת יְהַלֵּכוּן לִוְיָתָן זֶה יָצַרְתָּ לְשַׂחֶק בּוֹ.

(26) There go the ships; There is leviathan, whom Thou hast formed to sport therein.

(כב) יְהוָה קָנָנִי רֵאשִׁית דַּרְכּוֹ קֶדֶם מִפְעָלָיו מֵאָז. (כג) מֵעוֹלָם נִסַּכְתִּי מֵרֹאשׁ מִקַּדְמֵי אָרֶץ. (כד) בְּאֵין תְּהֹמוֹת חוֹלָלְתִּי בְּאֵין מַעְיָנוֹת נִכְבַּדֵּי מָיִם. (כה) בְּטֶרֶם הָרִים הָטְבָּעוּ לִפְנֵי גְבָעוֹת חוֹלָלְתִּי. (כו) עַד לֹא עָשָׂה אֶרֶץ וְחוּצוֹת וְרֹאשׁ עָפְרוֹת תֵּבֵל. (כז) בַּהֲכִינוֹ שָׁמַיִם שָׁם אָנִי בְּחוּקוֹ חוּג עַל פְּנֵי תְהוֹם. (כח) בְּאַמְּצוֹ שְׁחָקִים מִמָּעַל בַּעֲזוֹז עִינוֹת תְּהוֹם. (כט) בְּשׂוּמוֹ לַיָּם חֻקּוֹ וּמַיִם לֹא יַעַבְרוּ פִיו בְּחוּקוֹ מוֹסְדֵי אָרֶץ. (ל) וָאֶהְיֶה אֶצְלוֹ אָמוֹן וָאֶהְיֶה שַׁעֲשֻׁעִים יוֹם יוֹם מְשַׂחֶקֶת לְפָנָיו בְּכָל עֵת. (לא) מְשַׂחֶקֶת בְּתֵבֵל אַרְצוֹ וְשַׁעֲשֻׁעַי אֶת בְּנֵי אָדָם.
(22) The LORD made me as the beginning of His way, The first of His works of old. (23) I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, Or ever the earth was. (24) When there were no depths, I was brought forth; When there were no fountains abounding with water. (25) Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills was I brought forth; (26) While as yet He had not made the earth, nor the fields, Nor the beginning of the dust of the world. (27) When He established the heavens, I was there; When He set a circle upon the face of the deep, (28) When He made firm the skies above, When the fountains of the deep showed their might, (29) When He gave to the sea His decree, That the waters should not transgress His commandment, When He appointed the foundations of the earth; (30) Then I was by Him, as a nursling; And I was daily all delight, Playing always before Him, (31) Playing in His habitable earth, And my delights are with the sons of men.
(י) עֲ‍טִישֹׁתָיו תָּהֶל אוֹר וְעֵינָיו כְּעַפְעַפֵּי שָׁחַר. (יא) מִפִּיו לַפִּידִים יַהֲלֹכוּ כִּידוֹדֵי אֵשׁ יִתְמַלָּטוּ. (יב) מִנְּחִירָיו יֵצֵא עָשָׁן כְּדוּד נָפוּחַ וְאַגְמֹן. (יג) נַפְשׁוֹ גֶּחָלִים תְּלַהֵט וְלַהַב מִפִּיו יֵצֵא. (יד) בְּצַוָּארוֹ יָלִין עֹז וּלְפָנָיו תָּדוּץ דְּאָבָה. (טו) מַפְּלֵי בְשָׂרוֹ דָבֵקוּ יָצוּק עָלָיו בַּל יִמּוֹט. (טז) לִבּוֹ יָצוּק כְּמוֹ אָבֶן וְיָצוּק כְּפֶלַח תַּחְתִּית. (יז) מִשֵּׂתוֹ יָגוּרוּ אֵלִים מִשְּׁבָרִים יִתְחַטָּאוּ. (יח) מַשִּׂיגֵהוּ חֶרֶב בְּלִי תָקוּם חֲנִית מַסָּע וְשִׁרְיָה. (יט) יַחְשֹׁב לְתֶבֶן בַּרְזֶל לְעֵץ רִקָּבוֹן נְחוּשָׁה. (כ) לֹא יַבְרִיחֶנּוּ בֶן קָשֶׁת לְקַשׁ נֶהְפְּכוּ לוֹ אַבְנֵי קָלַע. (כא) כְּקַשׁ נֶחְשְׁבוּ תוֹתָח וְיִשְׂחַק לְרַעַשׁ כִּידוֹן. (כב) תַּחְתָּיו חַדּוּדֵי חָרֶשׂ יִרְפַּד חָרוּץ עֲלֵי טִיט. (כג) יַרְתִּיחַ כַּסִּיר מְצוּלָה יָם יָשִׂים כַּמֶּרְקָחָה. (כד) אַחֲרָיו יָאִיר נָתִיב יַחְשֹׁב תְּהוֹם לְשֵׂיבָה. (כה) אֵין עַל עָפָר מָשְׁלוֹ הֶעָשׂוּ לִבְלִי חָת. (כו) אֵת כָּל גָּבֹהַּ יִרְאֶה הוּא מֶלֶךְ עַל כָּל בְּנֵי שָׁחַץ.

(10) His sneezings flash forth light, And his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. (11) Out of his mouth go burning torches, And sparks of fire leap forth. (12) Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, As out of a seething pot and burning rushes. (13) His breath kindleth coals, And a flame goeth out of his mouth. (14) In his neck abideth strength, And dismay danceth before him. (15) The flakes of his flesh are joined together; They are firm upon him; they cannot be moved. (16) His heart is as firm as a stone; Yea, firm as the nether millstone. (17) When he raiseth himself up, the mighty are afraid; By reason of despair they are beside themselves. (18) If one lay at him with the sword, it will not hold; Nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft. (19) He esteemeth iron as straw, And brass as rotten wood. (20) The arrow cannot make him flee; Slingstones are turned with him into stubble. (21) Clubs are accounted as stubble; He laugheth at the rattling of the javelin. (22) Sharpest potsherds are under him; He spreadeth a threshing-sledge upon the mire. (23) He maketh the deep to boil like a pot; He maketh the sea like a seething mixture. (24) He maketh a path to shine after him; One would think the deep to be hoary. (25) Upon earth there is not his like Who is made to be fearless. (26) He looketh at all high things; He is king over all the proud beasts.

(יא) יָדַעְתִּי כָּל עוֹף הָרִים וְזִיז שָׂדַי עִמָּדִי.
