(8) And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof; and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.
(ג) ואין פותר אותם לפרעה. פותרים היו אותם, אבל לא לפרעה, שלא היה קולן נכנס באזניו, ולא היה לו קורת רוח בפתרונם, שהיו אומרים שבע בנות אתה מוליד, שבע בנות אתה קובר:
but no one interpreted them for Pharaoh: They did interpret them, but not for Pharaoh, for their voice did not reach his ears, and he had no satisfaction from their interpretation, for they said, “You will beget seven daughters, and you will bury seven daughters.” - [from Gen. Rabbah 89:6]
(א) וּבִשְׁנַ֣ת שְׁתַּ֗יִם לְמַלְכוּת֙ נְבֻֽכַדְנֶצַּ֔ר חָלַ֥ם נְבֻֽכַדְנֶצַּ֖ר חֲלֹמ֑וֹת וַתִּתְפָּ֣עֶם רוּח֔וֹ וּשְׁנָת֖וֹ נִהְיְתָ֥ה עָלָֽיו׃ (ב) וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הַ֠מֶּלֶךְ לִקְרֹ֨א לַֽחַרְטֻמִּ֜ים וְלָֽאַשָּׁפִ֗ים וְלַֽמְכַשְּׁפִים֙ וְלַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים לְהַגִּ֥יד לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ חֲלֹמֹתָ֑יו וַיָּבֹ֕אוּ וַיַּֽעַמְד֖וּ לִפְנֵ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (ג) וַיֹּ֧אמֶר לָהֶ֛ם הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ חֲל֣וֹם חָלָ֑מְתִּי וַתִּפָּ֣עֶם רוּחִ֔י לָדַ֖עַת אֶֽת־הַחֲלֽוֹם׃ (ד) וַֽיְדַבְּר֧וּ הַכַּשְׂדִּ֛ים לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֲרָמִ֑ית מַלְכָּא֙ לְעָלְמִ֣ין חֱיִ֔י אֱמַ֥ר חֶלְמָ֛א לעבדיך [לְעַבְדָ֖ךְ] וּפִשְׁרָ֥א נְחַוֵּֽא׃ (ט) ... לְמֵאמַ֣ר קָֽדָמַ֔י עַ֛ד דִּ֥י עִדָּנָ֖א יִשְׁתַּנֵּ֑א לָהֵ֗ן חֶלְמָא֙ אֱמַ֣רוּ לִ֔י וְֽאִנְדַּ֕ע דִּ֥י פִשְׁרֵ֖הּ תְּהַחֲוֻנַּֽנִי׃ (י) עֲנ֨וֹ כשדיא [כַשְׂדָּאֵ֤י] קֳדָם־מַלְכָּא֙ וְאָ֣מְרִ֔ין לָֽא־אִיתַ֤י אֲנָשׁ֙ עַל־יַבֶּשְׁתָּ֔א דִּ֚י מִלַּ֣ת מַלְכָּ֔א יוּכַ֖ל לְהַחֲוָיָ֑ה כָּל־קֳבֵ֗ל דִּ֚י כָּל־מֶ֙לֶךְ֙ רַ֣ב וְשַׁלִּ֔יט מִלָּ֤ה כִדְנָה֙ לָ֣א שְׁאֵ֔ל לְכָל־חַרְטֹּ֖ם וְאָשַׁ֥ף וְכַשְׂדָּֽי׃ (יא) וּמִלְּתָ֨א דִֽי־מַלְכָּ֤ה שָׁאֵל֙ יַקִּירָ֔ה וְאָחֳרָן֙ לָ֣א אִיתַ֔י דִּ֥י יְחַוִּנַּ֖הּ קֳדָ֣ם מַלְכָּ֑א לָהֵ֣ן אֱלָהִ֔ין דִּ֚י מְדָ֣רְה֔וֹן עִם־בִּשְׂרָ֖א לָ֥א אִיתֽוֹהִי׃ (יב) כָּל־קֳבֵ֣ל דְּנָ֔ה מַלְכָּ֕א בְּנַ֖ס וּקְצַ֣ף שַׂגִּ֑יא וַאֲמַר֙ לְה֣וֹבָדָ֔ה לְכֹ֖ל חַכִּימֵ֥י בָבֶֽל׃
(1) And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar dreamed dreams; and his spirit was troubled, and his sleep broke from him. (2) Then the king commanded to call the magicians, and the enchanters, and the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans, to tell the king his dreams. So they came and stood before the king. (3) And the king said unto them: ‘I have dreamed a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.’ (4) Then spoke the Chaldeans to the king in Aramaic: ‘O king, live for ever! tell thy servants the dream, and we will declare the interpretation.’ (9) ...only tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can declare unto me the interpretation thereof.’ (10) The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said: ‘There is not a man upon the earth that can declare the king’s matter; forasmuch as no great and powerful king hath asked such a thing of any magician, or enchanter, or Chaldean. (12) For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.
(26) The king spoke and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar: ‘Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof?’ (27) Daniel answered before the king, and said: ‘The secret which the king hath asked can neither wise men, enchanters, magicians, nor astrologers, declare unto the king; (28) but there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and He hath made known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the end of days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these: (29) as for thee, O king, thy thoughts came [into thy mind] upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter; and He that revealeth secrets hath made known to thee what shall come to pass. (30) But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but to the intent that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that thou mayest know the thoughts of thy heart.
(א) ואנה לא בחכמה . ואני לא מרוב החכמה שיש בי משאר הבריות יותר נגלה לי הסוד הזה :
And I, not with wisdom: And I, not with superior wisdom that I have, more than other creatures, was this secret revealed to me.
(מז) עָנֵה֩ מַלְכָּ֨א לְדָנִיֵּ֜אל וְאָמַ֗ר מִן־קְשֹׁט֙ דִּ֣י אֱלָהֲכ֗וֹן ה֣וּא אֱלָ֧הּ אֱלָהִ֛ין וּמָרֵ֥א מַלְכִ֖ין וְגָלֵ֣ה רָזִ֑ין דִּ֣י יְכֵ֔לְתָּ לְמִגְלֵ֖א רָזָ֥ה דְנָֽה׃ (מח) אֱדַ֨יִן מַלְכָּ֜א לְדָנִיֵּ֣אל רַבִּ֗י וּמַתְּנָ֨ן רַבְרְבָ֤ן שַׂגִּיאָן֙ יְהַב־לֵ֔הּ וְהַ֨שְׁלְטֵ֔הּ עַ֖ל כָּל־מְדִינַ֣ת בָּבֶ֑ל וְרַב־סִגְנִ֔ין עַ֖ל כָּל־חַכִּימֵ֥י בָבֶֽל׃
(ז) בשנת תשע ושישים ומאה, עת מלך מלך דימטריוס, כתבנו לכם את כל הצרות אשר עברו על נפשנו, בבגוד ישוע ועדתו בארץ הקדושה ויפשעו בממלכות יהודה.

Book of Maccabees II, 15
7אך לא הצליח חפצו בידו, כי הוא אמר
ברום לבבו, עתה אכבדה ביהודה ובכל עמו. ויהודה שם אלוהים מבטחו, וייחל לחסדו להינצל גם הפעם.
8ויאמץ את רוח האנשים אשר אתו ויאמר:
9אל תיראו ואל תערצו מפני הגויים הנוסעים לקראתכם.
10זכרו תשועת ה' מימי קדם, אשר שלח לכם מן השמים, ובטחו בישועתו גם עתה.
11וידבר על לבם לחזקם בדבר ה' ובדברי נביאיו, ויזכירם את המלחמות אשר נלחמו מקדם ויעורר את רוחם.
13ויאזרם חיל למלחמה, לא בחיל ולא בכוח, כי אם בדברים נכוחים ומזהירים.
14ויספר להם את כל המחזה אשר ראה בחלומו, ויחזק גם בו את לבבם, ויאמר:
21וחרב זהב בימין ירמיהו, ויתנה בידי ויאמר: קח נא את החרב בידך, והכית בו את צורריך.
22ויהי אחרי עוררו את רוח העם וכל בחורי כוח בדברי תנחומים כאלה, ויקראו כולם פה אחד ויאמרו:
23לא נבנה מקום למחנה, אך נסעה ונלכה חושים לקראת אויבנו, ונכם ונכיתם עד תומם.
24לכן נקום נא ונלחם בעד קריתנו הקדושה ובית מקדשנו.
34בפיהם קראו אל ה', ובידם הכו את האויב, ובתקוותם אל ישועת ה' השחיתו שלושים וחמישה אלף איש ארצה, וירונו לה' על תשועתו הנפלאה.
The Book of Maccabees II, 15
7 But Maccabeus had ever sure confidence that the Lord would help him: 8 Wherefore he exhorted his people not to fear the coming of the heathen against them, but to remember the help which in former times they had received from heaven, and now to expect the victory and aid, which should come unto them from the Almighty. 9 And so comforting them out of the law and the prophets, and with putting them in mind of the battles that they won afore, he made them more cheerful. 11 Thus he armed every one of them, not so much with defence of shields and spears, as with comfortable and good words: and beside that, he told them a dream worthy to be believed, as if it had been so indeed, which did not a little rejoice them..... 15 Whereupon Jeremias holding forth his right hand gave to Judas a sword of gold, and in giving it spake thus, 16 Take this holy sword, a gift from God, with the which thou shalt wound the adversaries.
17 Thus being well comforted by the words of Judas, which were very good, and able to stir them up to valour, and to encourage the hearts of the young men, they determined not to pitch camp, but courageously to set upon them, and manfully to try the matter by conflict, because the city and the sanctuary and the temple were in danger.
27 So that fighting with their hands, and praying unto God with their hearts, they slew no less than thirty and five thousand men:
