Climbing Jacob's Ladder

And Jacob went out from Beer-sheva, and went toward Haran. And he struck upon the place, and stayed the night there, because the sun was setting; and he took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in the place to sleep.

And he dreamed, and, look, a ladder/ramp set on the earth, and its top reaching the heavens; and, look, angels of God were doing up and down on it.

And Jacob went out...and went to Haran. He went in order to arrive at Charan (in his mind), but before he reached this destination, the following incidents occurred.

Going up and down on it. Going up first and afterwards going down, the angels that were accompanying him in the land do not go out of the land, but go up to the sky, and angels from outside of the land come down to accompany him.

And he dreamed. There are many opinions among our sages how best to explain this dream, as well as among other readers. Some say that God showed Jacob Mount Sinai, and the numerical value of the letters of the word sulam equals that of the word sinai (130).

Set upon the earth and its top reaching the heavens. Standing at Mount Sinai, the upper ones and the lower ones were together, and the angels of God angels were going up and down on it. The ones going up were Moses and Aharon, and the ones going down were the higher-level angels.
