(כז) לָ֤מָּה תֹאמַר֙ יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב וּתְדַבֵּ֖ר יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל נִסְתְּרָ֤ה דַרְכִּי֙ מֵֽה' וּמֵאֱלֹהַ֖י מִשְׁפָּטִ֥י יַעֲבֽוֹר׃ (כח) הֲל֨וֹא יָדַ֜עְתָּ אִם־לֹ֣א שָׁמַ֗עְתָּ אֱלֹהֵ֨י עוֹלָ֤ם ׀ ה' בּוֹרֵא֙ קְצ֣וֹת הָאָ֔רֶץ לֹ֥א יִיעַ֖ף וְלֹ֣א יִיגָ֑ע אֵ֥ין חֵ֖קֶר לִתְבוּנָתֽוֹ׃ (כט) נֹתֵ֥ן לַיָּעֵ֖ף כֹּ֑חַ וּלְאֵ֥ין אוֹנִ֖ים עָצְמָ֥ה יַרְבֶּֽה׃ (ל) וְיִֽעֲפ֥וּ נְעָרִ֖ים וְיִגָ֑עוּ וּבַחוּרִ֖ים כָּשׁ֥וֹל יִכָּשֵֽׁלוּ׃ (לא) וְקוֹיֵ֤ ה' יַחֲלִ֣יפוּ כֹ֔חַ יַעֲל֥וּ אֵ֖בֶר כַּנְּשָׁרִ֑ים יָר֙וּצוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א יִיגָ֔עוּ יֵלְכ֖וּ וְלֹ֥א יִיעָֽפוּ׃ (פ)
(27) Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel: ‘My way is hid from the LORD, and my right is passed over from my God’? (28) Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard That the everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Fainteth not, neither is weary? His discernment is past searching out. (29) He giveth power to the faint; And to him that hath no might He increaseth strength. (30) Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall; (31) But they that wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings as eagles; They shall run, and not be weary; They shall walk, and not faint.
אמר רבי סימון, בשם רבי יהושע בן לוי: כל מי שבוטח בהקב"ה זוכה להיות כיוצא בו. מנין? שנא' (ירמיה יז): ברוך הגבר אשר יבטח בה' והיה ה' מבטחו. אבל כל מי שיבטח בעבודת כוכבים, נתחייב להיות כיוצא בה. מנין? שנאמר (תהלים קטו): כמוהם יהיו עושיהם.
Rabbi Simon said in the name of Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi: Anyone who trusts in God merits to be like Him. How do we know? As it says: (Jeremiah 17:7) "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord." But anyone who places trusts in pagan worship, he becomes indebted to be like it. How do we know? As it says, (Psalms 115:8) "May they who make them become like them, [and everyone who trusts in them.]"
(א) הַחֲרִ֤ישׁוּ אֵלַי֙ אִיִּ֔ים וּלְאֻמִּ֖ים יַחֲלִ֣יפוּ כֹ֑חַ יִגְּשׁוּ֙ אָ֣ז יְדַבֵּ֔רוּ יַחְדָּ֖ו לַמִּשְׁפָּ֥ט נִקְרָֽבָה׃ (ב) מִ֤י הֵעִיר֙ מִמִּזְרָ֔ח צֶ֖דֶק יִקְרָאֵ֣הוּ לְרַגְל֑וֹ יִתֵּ֨ן לְפָנָ֤יו גּוֹיִם֙ וּמְלָכִ֣ים יַ֔רְדְּ יִתֵּ֤ן כֶּֽעָפָר֙ חַרְבּ֔וֹ כְּקַ֥שׁ נִדָּ֖ף קַשְׁתּֽוֹ׃ (ג) יִרְדְּפֵ֖ם יַעֲב֣וֹר שָׁל֑וֹם אֹ֥רַח בְּרַגְלָ֖יו לֹ֥א יָבֽוֹא׃ (ד) מִֽי־פָעַ֣ל וְעָשָׂ֔ה קֹרֵ֥א הַדֹּר֖וֹת מֵרֹ֑אשׁ אֲנִ֤י ה' רִאשׁ֔וֹן וְאֶת־אַחֲרֹנִ֖ים אֲנִי־הֽוּא׃
(1) Keep silence before Me, O islands, And let the peoples renew their strength; Let them draw near, then let them speak; Let us come near together to judgment. (2) Who hath raised up one from the east (Avraham), who would proclaim His righteousness at every footstep? He giveth nations before him, And maketh him rule over kings; His sword maketh them as the dust, His bow as the driven stubble. (3) He pursueth them, and passeth on safely; The way with his feet he treadeth not. (4) Who hath wrought and done it? He that called the generations from the beginning. I, the LORD, who am the first, And with the last am the same.
איתמר רבי חנינא אומר,מזל מחכים מזל מעשיר ויש מזל לישראל,רבי יוחנן אמר,אין מזל לישראל,ואזדא רבי יוחנן לטעמיה דא"ר יוחנן,מניין שאין מזל לישראל שנאמר,(ירמיהו י, ב) כה אמר ה' אל דרך הגוים אל תלמדו ומאותות השמים אל תחתו כי יחתו הגוים מהמה הם יחתו ולא ישראל,ואף רב סבר אין מזל לישראל דאמר רב יהודה אמר רב,מניין שאין מזל לישראל שנאמר,(בראשית טו, ה) ויוצא אותו החוצה,אמר אברהם לפני הקב"ה,רבש"ע (בראשית טו, ג) בן ביתי יורש אותי,אמר לו,לאו (בראשית טו, ד) כי אם אשר יצא ממעיך,אמר לפניו,רבש"ע נסתכלתי באיצטגנינות שלי ואיני ראוי להוליד בן,אמר ליה,צא מאיצטגנינות שלך שאין מזל לישראל,מאי דעתיך דקאי צדק במערב מהדרנא ומוקמינא ליה במזרח,והיינו דכתיב,(ישעיהו מא, ב) מי העיר ממזרח צדק יקראהו לרגלו
