(1) May He who blessed our fathers, Avraham, Yitschak and Yaakov bless the soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces, in their standing guard upon our land and the cities of our God - from the border of the Lebanon to the Wilderness of Egypt and from the Great Sea to the approach of the Arava - on land, in the air, and in the sea. May the Lord give our enemies that rise against us plagues in front of them. May the Holy One, blessed be He, guard and rescue our soldiers form all trouble and distress and from all affliction and illness; and send blessing and success in all the work of their hands. May He crush those that hate us below them and crown them with the crown of salvation and with the wreath of victory. And through them let the verse be fulfilled (Deuteronomy 20:4), "For it is the Lord, your God, that walks with you to fight for you against your enemies to save you." And let us say, Amen.

חזון העצמות היבשות שבספר יחזקאל ל"ז מתאר את תחיית עם ישראל. רבים רואים בשיבת ציון ובכינון מדינת ישראל התגשמות חזון זה.

יחזקאל ל״ז

(א) הָיְתָ֣ה עָלַי֮ יַד־יְהוָה֒ וַיּוֹצִאֵ֤נִי בְר֙וּחַ֙ יְהוָ֔ה וַיְנִיחֵ֖נִי בְּת֣וֹךְ הַבִּקְעָ֑ה וְהִ֖יא מְלֵאָ֥ה עֲצָמֽוֹת׃

Ezekiel 37

(1) The hand of the LORD came upon me. He took me out by the spirit of the LORD and set me down in the valley. It was full of bones. (2) He led me all around them; there were very many of them spread over the valley, and they were very dry. (3) He said to me, “O mortal, can these bones live again?” I replied, “O Lord GOD, only You know.” (4) And He said to me, “Prophesy over these bones and say to them: O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! (5) Thus said the Lord GOD to these bones: I will cause breath to enter you and you shall live again. (6) I will lay sinews upon you, and cover you with flesh, and form skin over you. And I will put breath into you, and you shall live again. And you shall know that I am the LORD!” (7) I prophesied as I had been commanded. And while I was prophesying, suddenly there was a sound of rattling, and the bones came together, bone to matching bone. (8) I looked, and there were sinews on them, and flesh had grown, and skin had formed over them; but there was no breath in them. (9) Then He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, O mortal! Say to the breath: Thus said the Lord GOD: Come, O breath, from the four winds, and breathe into these slain, that they may live again.” (10) I prophesied as He commanded me. The breath entered them, and they came to life and stood up on their feet, a vast multitude. (11) And He said to me, “O mortal, these bones are the whole House of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up, our hope is gone; we are doomed.’ (12) Prophesy, therefore, and say to them: Thus said the Lord GOD: I am going to open your graves and lift you out of the graves, O My people, and bring you to the land of Israel. (13) You shall know, O My people, that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves and lifted you out of your graves. (14) I will put My breath into you and you shall live again, and I will set you upon your own soil. Then you shall know that I the LORD have spoken and have acted”—declares the LORD. (15) The word of the LORD came to me: (16) And you, O mortal, take a stick and write on it, “Of Judah and the Israelites associated with him”; and take another stick and write on it, “Of Joseph—the stick of Ephraim—and all the House of Israel associated with him.” (17) Bring them close to each other, so that they become one stick, joined together in your hand. (18) And when any of your people ask you, “Won’t you tell us what these actions of yours mean?” (19) answer them, “Thus said the Lord GOD: I am going to take the stick of Joseph—which is in the hand of Ephraim—and of the tribes of Israel associated with him, and I will place the stick of Judah upon it and make them into one stick; they shall be joined in My hand.” (20) You shall hold up before their eyes the sticks which you have inscribed, (21) and you shall declare to them: Thus said the Lord GOD: I am going to take the Israelite people from among the nations they have gone to, and gather them from every quarter, and bring them to their own land. (22) I will make them a single nation in the land, on the hills of Israel, and one king shall be king of them all. Never again shall they be two nations, and never again shall they be divided into two kingdoms. (23) Nor shall they ever again defile themselves by their fetishes and their abhorrent things, and by their other transgressions. I will save them in all their settlements where they sinned, and I will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God. (24) My servant David shall be king over them; there shall be one shepherd for all of them. They shall follow My rules and faithfully obey My laws. (25) Thus they shall remain in the land which I gave to My servant Jacob and in which your fathers dwelt; they and their children and their children’s children shall dwell there forever, with My servant David as their prince for all time. (26) I will make a covenant of friendship with them—it shall be an everlasting covenant with them—I will establish them and multiply them, and I will place My Sanctuary among them forever. (27) My Presence shall rest over them; I will be their God and they shall be My people. (28) And when My Sanctuary abides among them forever, the nations shall know that I the LORD do sanctify Israel.

מזמור קכ"ו בתהלים מתאר את שיבת ציון ונאמר כחלק מסדר התפילה שהותקן ליום העצמאות. מזמור זה בין השאר היה אחת מן ההצעות להמנון הלאומי.

תהילים קכ״ו

(א) שִׁ֗יר הַֽמַּ֫עֲל֥וֹת בְּשׁ֣וּב יְ֭הוָה אֶת־שִׁיבַ֣ת צִיּ֑וֹן הָ֝יִ֗ינוּ כְּחֹלְמִֽים׃

Psalms 126

(1) A song of ascents. When the LORD restores the fortunes of Zion —we see it as in a dream— (2) our mouths shall be filled with laughter, our tongues, with songs of joy. Then shall they say among the nations, “The LORD has done great things for them!” (3) The LORD will do great things for us and we shall rejoice. (4) Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like watercourses in the Negeb. (5) They who sow in tears shall reap with songs of joy. (6) Though he goes along weeping, carrying the seed-bag, he shall come back with songs of joy, carrying his sheaves.

מזמור קז בתהלים הוא המזמור הפותח את תפילת יום העצמאות ועיקרו הודיה לקב"ה והכרה בניסיו.

(23) Others go down to the sea in ships, ply their trade in the mighty waters; (24) they have seen the works of the LORD and His wonders in the deep. (25) By His word He raised a storm wind that made the waves surge. (26) Mounting up to the heaven, plunging down to the depths, disgorging in their misery, (27) they reeled and staggered like a drunken man, all their skill to no avail. (28) In their adversity they cried to the LORD, and He saved them from their troubles. (29) He reduced the storm to a whisper; the waves were stilled. (30) They rejoiced when all was quiet, and He brought them to the port they desired. (31) Let them praise the LORD for His steadfast love, His wondrous deeds for mankind. (32) Let them exalt Him in the congregation of the people, acclaim Him in the assembly of the elders. (33) He turns the rivers into a wilderness, springs of water into thirsty land, (34) fruitful land into a salt marsh, because of the wickedness of its inhabitants. (35) He turns the wilderness into pools, parched land into springs of water. (36) There He settles the hungry; they build a place to settle in. (37) They sow fields and plant vineyards that yield a fruitful harvest. (38) He blesses them and they increase greatly; and He does not let their cattle decrease, (39) after they had been few and crushed by oppression, misery, and sorrow. (40) He pours contempt on great men and makes them lose their way in trackless deserts; (41) but the needy He secures from suffering, and increases their families like flocks. (42) The upright see it and rejoice; the mouth of all wrongdoers is stopped. (43) The wise man will take note of these things; he will consider the steadfast love of the LORD.
