the basic reason given as for why we can say Mode Ani before washing our hands, is because it has no mention of any of g-d's names.
a Chassidic explanation given to this matter;
there is nothing in the world that can defile the Mode Ani of a jew. He may be messing some things but, the Mode Ani stays complete. For Mode Ani is the general commitment of a jew to his creator.
