The Justice of Familial Inheritance

(8) And you shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: If a man die, and have no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter. (9) And if he have no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers. (10) And if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. (11) And if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his kinsman that is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it.

(23) And the land shall not be sold in perpetuity; for the land is Mine; for ye are strangers and settlers with Me.

Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations

"A power to dispose of estates for ever is manifestly absurd. The earth and the fulness of it belongs to every generation, and the preceding one can have no right to bind it up from posterity. Such extension of property is quite unnatural." Smith said: "There is no point more difficult to account for than the right we conceive men to have to dispose of their goods after death."

Thomas Paine, Agrarian Justice

There could be no such thing as landed property originally. Man did not make the earth, and, though he had a natural right to occupy it, he had no right to locate as his property in perpetuity any part of it; neither did the Creator of the earth open a land-office, from whence the first title-deeds should issue.

Tol'dot Yitzchak, Parshat Re'eh

The reason that the poor person is poor is because the rich person is rich; when your star ascends, his star descends. For this reason, the text says "the poor person with you." What need is there to say "with you"? To indicate that you are the reason that he is poor. And if you do not give to him, what will God do? God will rotate the universe in such a way that the star that is on top will sink to the bottom, and the star that is on the bottom will rise to the top.
