Parashat Nasso What are we being blessed with and protected from?

What are we being blessed with? What are we being protected from?

Midrash Tanchuma says that the blessing we are being offered is in regards to increase. What are we hoping to be increased with/by?

1. Progeny.

2. Material Wealth.

For each of these that Midrash Tanchuma mentions, how do we then understand the second word, veyishmerecha, a blessing to protect/keep?

Progeny: "We should make use of our 'increase' for the correct and proper purpose...Indeed, the blessing of children is a very special one, but it is also a challenge." -- HaRav Baruch Sorotzkin from Rabbi A.L. 2. Material Wealth: Midrash Tanchuma says that this means "keep you away from the destroyers, damagers, spoilers, pests, and demons." --Pinchas H. Peli. "What a Blessing." Torah Today: A Renewed Encounter with Scripture. Washington, D.C.: B'nai B'rith Books, 1987. 161-164.

a. Rashi asks "What good is there in being blessed with money if eventually robbers come and take it away from you? That it why 'the Lord bless you' (with money) must be accompanied with 'and keep you,' so the money is not taken away from you. There are, as we know, a million ways of making money, a million and one for losing it." Ibid.

i. Who is he talking about?

b. "'May the Lord bless you' with money, and may He 'keep you' from accumulating this money in non-proper ways (like theft, desecration of the Sabbath, etc.). May the money that you would be blessed with always be clean and kosher." Ibid.

c. "May God 'bless you' with possessions and 'keep you' from those possessions possessing you." Ibid.
