Proverbs 28:27
נוֹתֵן לָרָשׁ אֵין מַחְסוֹר וּמַעְלִים עֵינָיו רַב מְאֵרוֹת:
One who gives to the poor will not be in want, but one who shuts one's eyes will be roundly cursed. [JPS translation edited for gender neutrality]
Suggested Discussion Questions:
1. How can giving tzedakah benefit the giver?
2. How can we resist the temptation to shut our eyes? Are there times when it is necessary?
Time Period: Biblical (early ancestors to 165 BCE)
