Babylonian Talmud, Shabbat 127a - 1
תלמוד בבלי מסכת שבת דף קכז עמוד א
אמר רב יהודה אמר רב: גדולה הכנסת אורחין מהקבלת פני שכינה
Greater is the welcoming of guests than the welcoming of the Shechinah (the Divine presence.) [Translation by Uri L’Tzedek]

Suggested Discussion Questions:

1. Why might we assume that welcoming the Shechinah is greater than welcoming guests?

2. Why does welcoming guests take priority?

3. Are there situations in which we do not prioritize people before God?

Time Period: Rabbinic (Maccabees through the Talmud)
