מלכים א י״ג:א׳-ד׳

(א) וְהִנֵּ֣ה ׀ אִ֣ישׁ אֱלֹקִ֗ים בָּ֧א מִיהוּדָ֛ה בִּדְבַ֥ר ה' אֶל־בֵּֽית־אֵ֑ל וְיָרָבְעָ֛ם עֹמֵ֥ד עַל־הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ לְהַקְטִֽיר׃ (ב) וַיִּקְרָ֤א עַל־הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ בִּדְבַ֣ר ה' וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ מִזְבֵּ֣חַ מִזְבֵּ֔חַ כֹּ֖ה אָמַ֣ר ה' הִנֵּֽה־בֵ֞ן נוֹלָ֤ד לְבֵית־דָּוִד֙ יֹאשִׁיָּ֣הוּ שְׁמ֔וֹ וְזָבַ֣ח עָלֶ֗יךָ אֶת־כֹּהֲנֵ֤י הַבָּמוֹת֙ הַמַּקְטִרִ֣ים עָלֶ֔יךָ וְעַצְמ֥וֹת אָדָ֖ם יִשְׂרְפ֥וּ עָלֶֽיךָ׃ (ג) וְנָתַן֩ בַּיּ֨וֹם הַה֤וּא מוֹפֵת֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר זֶ֣ה הַמּוֹפֵ֔ת אֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֣ר ה' הִנֵּ֤ה הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ נִקְרָ֔ע וְנִשְׁפַּ֖ךְ הַדֶּ֥שֶׁן אֲשֶׁר־עָלָֽיו׃ (ד) וַיְהִי֩ כִשְׁמֹ֨עַ הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶת־דְּבַ֣ר אִישׁ־הָאֱלֹקִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר קָרָ֤א עַל־הַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ בְּבֵֽית־אֵ֔ל וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח יָרָבְעָ֧ם אֶת־יָד֛וֹ מֵעַ֥ל הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ לֵאמֹ֣ר ׀ תִּפְשֻׂ֑הוּ וַתִּיבַ֤שׁ יָדוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁלַ֣ח עָלָ֔יו וְלֹ֥א יָכֹ֖ל לַהֲשִׁיבָ֥הּ אֵלָֽיו׃

I Kings 13:1-4

(1) a man of God arrived at Bethel from Judah at the command of the LORD. While Jeroboam was standing on the altar to present the offering, the man of God, at the command of the LORD, cried out against the altar: (2) “O altar, altar! Thus said the LORD: A son shall be born to the House of David, Josiah by name; and he shall slaughter upon you the priests of the shrines who bring offerings upon you. And human bones shall be burned upon you.” (3) He gave a portent on that day, saying, “Here is the portent that the LORD has decreed: This altar shall break apart, and the ashes on it shall be spilled.” (4) When the king heard what the man of God had proclaimed against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam stretched out his arm above the altar and cried, “Seize him!” But the arm that he stretched out against him became rigid, and he could not draw it back.

לו) יוֹלֵ֨ךְ ה' אֹֽתְךָ֗ וְאֶֽת־מַלְכְּךָ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תָּקִ֣ים עָלֶ֔יךָ אֶל־גּ֕וֹי אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־יָדַ֖עְתָּ אַתָּ֣ה וַאֲבֹתֶ֑יךָ וְעָבַ֥דְתָּ שָּׁ֛ם אֱ(לֹקִ֥ים אֲחֵרִ֖ים עֵ֥ץ וָאָֽבֶן׃ (לז) וְהָיִ֣יתָ לְשַׁמָּ֔ה לְמָשָׁ֖ל וְלִשְׁנִינָ֑ה בְּכֹל֙ הָֽעַמִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־יְנַהֶגְךָ֥ ה' שָֽׁמָּה׃ (לח) זֶ֥רַע רַ֖ב תּוֹצִ֣יא הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה וּמְעַ֣ט תֶּאֱסֹ֔ף כִּ֥י יַחְסְלֶ֖נּוּ הָאַרְבֶּֽה׃ (לט) כְּרָמִ֥ים תִּטַּ֖ע וְעָבָ֑דְתָּ וְיַ֤יִן לֹֽא־תִשְׁתֶּה֙ וְלֹ֣א תֶאֱגֹ֔ר כִּ֥י תֹאכְלֶ֖נּוּ הַתֹּלָֽעַת׃ (מ) זֵיתִ֛ים יִהְי֥וּ לְךָ֖ בְּכָל־גְּבוּלֶ֑ךָ וְשֶׁ֙מֶן֙ לֹ֣א תָס֔וּךְ כִּ֥י יִשַּׁ֖ל זֵיתֶֽךָ׃ (מא) בָּנִ֥ים וּבָנ֖וֹת תּוֹלִ֑יד וְלֹא־יִהְי֣וּ לָ֔ךְ כִּ֥י יֵלְכ֖וּ בַּשֶּֽׁבִי׃ (מב) כָּל־עֵצְךָ֖ וּפְרִ֣י אַדְמָתֶ֑ךָ יְיָרֵ֖שׁ הַצְּלָצַֽל׃ (מג) הַגֵּר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּקִרְבְּךָ֔ יַעֲלֶ֥ה עָלֶ֖יךָ מַ֣עְלָה מָּ֑עְלָה וְאַתָּ֥ה תֵרֵ֖ד מַ֥טָּה מָּֽטָּה׃ (מד) ה֣וּא יַלְוְךָ֔ וְאַתָּ֖ה לֹ֣א תַלְוֶ֑נּוּ ה֚וּא יִהְיֶ֣ה לְרֹ֔אשׁ וְאַתָּ֖ה תִּֽהְיֶ֥ה לְזָנָֽב׃ (מה) וּבָ֨אוּ עָלֶ֜יךָ כָּל־הַקְּלָל֣וֹת הָאֵ֗לֶּה וּרְדָפ֙וּךָ֙ וְהִשִּׂיג֔וּךָ עַ֖ד הִשָּֽׁמְדָ֑ךְ כִּי־לֹ֣א שָׁמַ֗עְתָּ בְּקוֹל֙ ה' אֱלֹקֶ֔יךָ לִשְׁמֹ֛ר מִצְוֺתָ֥יו וְחֻקֹּתָ֖יו אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוָּֽךְ׃ (מו) וְהָי֣וּ בְךָ֔ לְא֖וֹת וּלְמוֹפֵ֑ת וּֽבְזַרְעֲךָ֖ עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃

Deuteronomy 28:36-46

(36) The LORD will drive you, and the king you have set over you, to a nation unknown to you or your fathers, where you shall serve other gods, of wood and stone. (37) You shall be a consternation, a proverb, and a byword among all the peoples to which the LORD will drive you. (38) Though you take much seed out to the field, you shall gather in little, for the locust shall consume it. (39) Though you plant vineyards and till them, you shall have no wine to drink or store, for the worm shall devour them. (40) Though you have olive trees throughout your territory, you shall have no oil for anointment, for your olives shall drop off. (41) Though you beget sons and daughters, they shall not remain with you, for they shall go into captivity. (42) The cricket shall take over all the trees and produce of your land. (43) The stranger in your midst shall rise above you higher and higher, while you sink lower and lower: (44) he shall be your creditor, but you shall not be his; he shall be the head and you the tail. (45) All these curses shall befall you; they shall pursue you and overtake you, until you are wiped out, because you did not heed the LORD your God and keep the commandments and laws that He enjoined upon you. (46) They shall serve as signs and proofs against you and your offspring for all time.

Berakhot 10a:31

Hezekiah continued: I have received a tradition from the house of my father’s father, from King David, the founding father of the dynasty of kings of Judea: Even if a sharp sword rests upon a person’s neck, he should not prevent himself from praying for mercy. One may still hold out hope that his prayers will be answered, as was David himself when he saw the Angel of Destruction, but nonetheless prayed for mercy and his prayers were answered.

ומי גנזו יאשיהו גנזו מה ראה שגנזו ראה שכתוב (דברים כח, לו) יולך ה' אותך ואת מלכך אשר תקים עליך עמד וגנזו

Yoma 52b:12

§ And who buried the Ark? Josiah, king of Judea, buried it. And what did he see that he decided to bury it? He saw that it is written: “The Lord will bring you, and your king whom you shall set over you, to a nation that you have not known” (Deuteronomy 28:36). Since he knew that the Jewish people would ultimately be exiled, he felt it was better that the Ark should not be disgraced in exile, and therefore he arose and buried it.

II Chronicles 35:7-10

(7) Josiah donated to the people small cattle—lambs and goats, all for passover sacrifices for all present—to the sum of 30,000, and large cattle, 3,000—these from the property of the king. (8) His officers gave a freewill offering to the people, to the priests, and to the Levites. Hilkiah and Zechariah and Jehiel, the chiefs of the House of God, donated to the priests for passover sacrifices 2,600 [small cattle] and 300 large cattle. (9) Conaniah, Shemaiah, and Nethanel, his brothers, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, officers of the Levites, donated 5,000 [small cattle] and 500 large cattle to the Levites for passover sacrifices. (10) The service was arranged well: the priests stood at their posts and the Levites in their divisions, by the king’s command.

Lamentations 4:1-10

(1) Alas! The gold is dulled, Debased the finest gold! The sacred gems are spilled At every street corner. (2) The precious children of Zion; Once valued as gold— Alas, they are accounted as earthen pots, Work of a potter’s hands! (3) Even jackals offer the breast And suckle their young; But my poor people has turned cruel, Like ostriches of the desert. (4) The tongue of the suckling cleaves To its palate for thirst. Little children beg for bread; None gives them a morsel. (5) Those who feasted on dainties Lie famished in the streets; Those who were reared in purple Have embraced refuse heaps. (6) The guilt of my poor people Exceeded the iniquity of Sodom, Which was overthrown in a moment, Without a hand striking it. (7) Her elect were purer than snow, Whiter than milk; Their limbs were ruddier than coral, Their bodies were like sapphire. (8) Now their faces are blacker than soot, They are not recognized in the streets; Their skin has shriveled on their bones, It has become dry as wood. (9) Better off were the slain of the sword Than those slain by famine, Who pined away, [as though] wounded, For lack of the fruits of the field. (10) With their own hands, tenderhearted women Have cooked their children; Such became their fare, In the disaster of my poor people.

א) וַיְקוֹנֵן יִרְמְיָהוּ עַל יֹאשִׁיָּהוּ (דברי הימים ב לה כה)

(ב) אֵיכָה אֱלִי קוֹנְנוּ מֵאֵלָיו. בֶּן שְׁמוֹנֶה שָׁנָה הֵחֵל לִדְרֹשׁ מֵאֱלֹקָיו.

(ג) בְּנֵי חָם בְּעָבְרָם חָנוּ עָלָיו. וְלֹא הֻזְכַּר לוֹ שִׁנּוּי מִפְעָלָיו:

(ד) גַּם בְּכָל מַלְכֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר קָמוּ לִגְדֹּר. לֹא קָם כָּמוֹהוּ מִימוֹת אֲבִיגְדוֹר.

(ה) דָּבַק בּוֹ חֵטְא לֵיצָנֵי הַדּוֹר. אֲשֶׁר קָמוּ אַחַר הַדֶּלֶת לִסְדֹּר:

(ו) הָאוֹכְלִים זֶרַע שִׁיחוֹר. כִּתְמוֹ הַטּוֹב פִּחֲמוּ מִשְּׁחוֹר.

(ז) וַיִּגְדַּל עָוֹן וְהֵשִׁיב יָמִין אָחוֹר. וְעוֹד לֹא שָׁלַח יָדוֹ מִן הַחוֹר:

(ח) זַכּוּ אֲמָרָיו כְּנָם דָּת לְהָקִים. בִּצַּע אֶמְרָתוֹ בְּאָרוּר אֲשֶׁר לֹא יָקִים.

(ט) חָשַׁךְ תָּאֳרוֹ כְּנִאֲצוּ רְחוֹקִים. בְּבֶצַע מוֹאֲסֵי דָּת וְחֻקִּים:

(י) טוֹבִים רָעִים נִקְרְאוּ בְּשָׁלְחוֹ מַלְאָךְ. מַה לִּי וָלָךְ הַיּוֹם לְתַלְּאָךְ.

(יא) יְדֵי עַם הָאָרֶץ דָּמִים בְּמַלְּאָךְ. תֵּעָנֵשׁ בְּבָצְעִי אֶת פִּלְאָךְ:

(יב) כִּלָּה הֲמוֹנַי לֶכֶת אֲרַם נַהֲרַיִם. לְמַעַן לֹא תַעֲבֹר חֶרֶב כָּל שֶׁהוּא בְּאֶפְרַיִם.

(יג) וְלֹא שָׁמַע לְחוֹזֶה לָשׁוּב אֲחוֹרַיִם. כִּי גְּזֵרָה נִגְזְרָה לְסַכְסֵךְ מִצְרַיִם בְּמִצְרָיִם:

(יד) מֵחַטֹּאת סְתִירַת מְזוּזוֹת. חֲזוֹן עַנְתוֹתִי הֵחֵלּוּ לִבְזוֹת.

(טו) נָעוּ עֲנָמִים לְחוּמוֹ לְהַבְזוֹת. וְלֹא הֵסֵב פָּנָיו וְסָפְדוּ עַל זֹאת:

(טז) סוּרוּ הֵעִידוּ עַד לֹא שְׁאִיָּה. וַיְמָאֲנוּ סוּר וּמָט יְסוֹד נְשִׁיָּה.

(יז) פְּנֵי קְרָב כְּקָרַב וְלֹא עָלְתָה לוֹ רְטִיָּה. וַיוֹרוּ הַמּוֹרִים לַמֶּלֶךְ יֹאשִׁיָּה:

(יח) עוֹדֶנּוּ עוֹצֵם עֵינָיו בְּגֶוְיוֹ נוֹחֲצִים. חֵץ אַחַר חֵץ מוֹרִים וְלוֹחֲצִים.

(יט) צָדוּהוּ וְשָׂמוּהוּ כַּמַּטָּרָה לַחִצִּים. וַיִּזְרְקוּ בּוֹ שְׁלֹש מֵאוֹת חִצִּים:

(כ) קַלִּים הִטּוּ אַחֲרָיו אֱזוֹן מוֹצָא פִיהוּ. וְעַד מִצּוּי נֶפֶשׁ מַעֲשָׂיו הֵפִיהוּ.

(כא) רוּחַ שְׂפָתָיו הִפְצָה מִפִּיהוּ. צַדִּיק הוּא ה' כִּי מָרִיתִי פִּיהוּ:

(כב) שִׂישִׂי נוֹף כִּי קִנֵּא זַעַם. לְשַׁלֵּם שְׁאוֹנָם בַּעֲוֹן בִּצְעָם.

(כג) תַּם כֶּתֶם הַטּוֹב עַם זוּ בְּפִשְׁעָם. וַיְקוֹנֵן עָלָיו כָּל אֵיכָה יוּעַם:

(כד) תַּם בְּמִקְרֶה אֶחָד כּוֹס מְגִדּוֹ לִשְׁתּוֹת. בְּמוֹעֵד שְׁנַת הַשְּׁמִטָּה כְּנָע הַקְהֵל לֶאֱתוֹת.

(כה) תָּלָה בְּעֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁתַּיִם מֵהֲרֹס שָׁתוֹת. כִּי סָפְדוּ לוֹ אֵיכָה בְּעֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁתַּיִם אוֹתִיּוֹת:

(כו) אוֹתוֹת קִינוֹת לֻבָּטָה מְחוֹלִי. עֵת כִּי שָׁכַחְתִּי מְחוֹלְלִי.

(כז) זַמּוֹתִי כִּי לָעַד יַאֲהִילִי. רָשַׁעְתִּי וְנָסַעְתִּי וְנֻטַּשׁ אָהֳלִי:
