שיר השירים א׳:ב׳

(ב) יִשָּׁקֵ֙נִי֙ מִנְּשִׁיק֣וֹת פִּ֔יהוּ כִּֽי־טוֹבִ֥ים דֹּדֶ֖יךָ מִיָּֽיִן׃

Song of Songs 1:2

(2) Oh, give me of the kisses of your mouth, For your love is more delightful than wine.

(ב) אֲמַר שְׁלֹמֹה נְבִיָּא בְּרִיךְ שְׁמֵיהּ דַּיָי דִּיהַב לַן אוֹרַיְתָא עַל יְדוֹהִי דְּמֹשֶׁה סָפְרָא רַבָּא כְּתִיבָא עַל תְּרֵין לוּחֵי אַבְנַיָּא וְשִׁיתָּא סִדְרֵי מִשְׁנָה וְתַלְמוּדָא בְּגִּרְסָא וַהֲוָה מִתְמַלַּל עִמַּן אַפִּין בְּאַפִּין כִּגְבַר דְּנַשֵּׁיק לְחַבְרֵיהּ מִן סְגִיאוּת חִבְּתָא דְּחַבֵּיב לַן יַתִּיר מִשִּׁבְעִין עַמְמַיָּא:

Aramaic Targum to Song of Songs 1:2

(2) Section 1: The Wilderness 1:2 Solomon the prophet said: “Blessed be the name of YY who gave us the Torah by the hand of Moses the great scribe, inscribed on two tablets of stone, and [gave us] six orders of the Mishnah and the Gemara by oral tradition, and conversed with us face to face (as a man who kisses his companion) out of the great love with which He cherished us, more than the seventy nations.

(ג) לְרֵ֙יחַ֙ שְׁמָנֶ֣יךָ טוֹבִ֔ים שֶׁ֖מֶן תּוּרַ֣ק שְׁמֶ֑ךָ עַל־כֵּ֖ן עֲלָמ֥וֹת אֲהֵבֽוּךָ׃

Song of Songs 1:3

(3) Your ointments yield a sweet fragrance, Your name is like finest oil— Therefore do maidens love you.

(ג) לְקָל נִיסָּךְ וּגְבוּרְתָךְ דַּעֲבַדְתָּא לְעַמָּךְ בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל זָעוּ כָּל עַמְמַיָּא דִּשְׁמַעוּ יָת שֵׁימַע גְּבוּרְתָךְ וְאָתְוָתָךְ טָבַיָּא וּשְׁמָךְ קַדִּישָׁא אִשְׁתְּמַע בְּכָל אַרְעָא דַהֲוָא בְּחִיר מִמְּשַׁח רְבוּתָא דַּהֲוָה מִתְרַבֵּי עַל רֵישֵׁי מַלְכִין וְכָהֲנִין וּבְגִין כֵּן רְחִימוּ צַדִּיקַיָּא לִמְהָךְ בָּתַר אוֹרַח טוּבָךְ בְּדִיל דְּיַחְסְנוּן עָלְמָא הָדֵין וְעָלְמָא דְּאָתֵי:

Aramaic Targum to Song of Songs 1:3

(3) 1:3 “At the sound of your miracle and might which you performed for the people, the House of Israel, all the nations who heard the report of your might and good signs trembled; and your Holy Name was heard in all the earth, and it was more choice than the oil of high office with which the heads of kings and priests were anointed. And therefore the righteous loved to follow the path of your goodness in order that they may possess this world and the world to come.”

(ד) מָשְׁכֵ֖נִי אַחֲרֶ֣יךָ נָּר֑וּצָה הֱבִיאַ֨נִי הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ חֲדָרָ֗יו נָגִ֤ילָה וְנִשְׂמְחָה֙ בָּ֔ךְ נַזְכִּ֤ירָה דֹדֶ֙יךָ֙ מִיַּ֔יִן מֵישָׁרִ֖ים אֲהֵבֽוּךָ׃ (ס)

Song of Songs 1:4

(4) Draw me after you, let us run! The king has brought me to his chambers. Let us delight and rejoice in your love, Savoring it more than wine— Like new wine they love you!

(ד) כַּד נְפַקוּ עַמָּא בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל מִמִּצְרַיִם הֲוָת מְדַבְּרָא שְׁכִינַת מָרֵי עָלְמָא קֳדָמֵיהוֹן בְּעַמּוּדָא דַּעֲנָנָא בִּימָמָא וּבְעַמּוּדָא דְּאֵשָׁתָא בְּלֵילְיָא אֲמַרוּ צַדִּיקֵי דָּרָא הַהוּא רִבּוֹן כָּל עָלְמָא נְגֵידְנָא בָּתְרָךְ וּנְהֵי רָהֲטִין בָּתַר אוֹרַח טוּבָךְ וְקָרֵיב יָתַן בְּשִׁפּוֹלֵי טוּרָא דְּסִינַי וְהַב לַן יָת אוֹרַיְיתָךְ מִן בֵּית גִּנְזָךְ דִּרְקִיעָא וְנֶחֳדֵי וְנִבְדַח בְּעַשְׂרִין וְתַרְתֵּין אָתְוָן דְּמִכַּתְבָא בְּהוֹן וּנְהֵי דָּכְרִין יָתְהוֹן וְנִרְחַם יָת אֲלָהוּתָךְ וּנְהֵי מִתְרַחֲקִין מִבָּתַר טָעֲוָת עַמְמַיָּא וְכָל צַדִּיקַיָּא דְּעָבְדִין דְּתָקֵין קֳדָמָךְ יְהוֹן דָּחֲלִין מִנָּךְ וְרָחֲמִין יָת פִּקּוֹדָךְ:

Aramaic Targum to Song of Songs 1:4

(4) 1:4 When the people of the House of Israel went out from Egypt, the Presence 3 of the Lord of the World was their leader; it went before them with a pillar of cloud by day and with a pillar of fire by night. The righteous of that generation said: “Master of all the World, draw us after you and we will run after the path of your goodness. So draw us near to the base of Mount Sinai and give us your Laws from your treasure house of the Firmament. And we will rejoice and be glad with the twenty-two letters with which they are written and we will be mindful of them and will love your divinity and will remove ourselves from the idols of the nations. And all the righteous who do what is upright in your sight will revere you and love your commands.”

כשיצאו עם בית ישראל ממצרים הייתה מדברת שכינת אדון העולם לפניהם בעמוד ענן ביום ובעמוד אשת בלילה. אמרו צדיקי הדור ההוא ריבון כל העולם מושכני אחרך ונהיה רצים אחרי דרך טובך וקרב אותני לתחתית הר סיני ותן לנו את תורתך מבית גנזי רקיע, ונשמח ונתבדח בעשרים ושתיים אותיות שכתובה בהם.

(ה) שְׁחוֹרָ֤ה אֲנִי֙ וְֽנָאוָ֔ה בְּנ֖וֹת יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם כְּאָהֳלֵ֣י קֵדָ֔ר כִּירִיע֖וֹת שְׁלֹמֹֽה׃

Song of Songs 1:5

(5) I am dark, but comely, O daughters of Jerusalem— Like the tents of Kedar, Like the pavilions of Solomon.

(ה) כַּד עֲבַדוּ בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל יָת עִגְלָא אִתְקְדַרוּ אַפֵּיהוֹן כִּבְנוֹי דְּכוּשׁ דְּשַׁרְיָן בְּמַשְׁכְּנֵי קֵדָר וְכַד תָּבוּ בִּתְיוּבְתָּא וְאִשְׁתְּבֵיק לְהוֹן סְגָא זִיו יְקַר אַפֵּיהוֹן כְּמַלְאֲכַיָּא עַל דַּעֲבַדוּ יְרִיעָתָא לְמַשְׁכְּנָא וּשְׁרָת בֵּינֵיהוֹן שְׁכִינְתָא דַּיָי וּמֹשֶׁה רִבְּהוֹן סְלֵיק לִרְקִיעָא וִיהַב שְׁלָם בֵּינֵיהוֹן וּבֵין מַלְכְּהוֹן:

Aramaic Targum to Song of Songs 1:5

(5) 1:5 When the House of Israel made the [Golden] Calf, their faces grew dark like the children of Cush [Ethiopians] who dwell in the tents of Qedar. And when they turned in repentance and their guilt was pardoned them, the splendor of their faces’ glory increased like the angels, because they made the curtains for the Tabernacle and the Presence of YY dwelt among them. And Moses their master went up to the Firmament and made peace 4 between them and their King.

כשעשו ישראל את העגל התקדרו פניהם כבני כוש ששורים באהולי קדר וכאשר שבו בתשובה ונסלח להם רב יקר פניהם כמלאכים על שעשו יריעות למשכן ושרתה ביניהם שכינת ה' ומשה רבם עליה לרקיע ונתן שלום ביניהם.

התרגום קורא את הפסוק לשני שלבים שונים: שחורה אני ונאוה כאהלי קדר. ונאוה כיריעות שלמה.

שיר השירים א׳:ו׳

(ו) אַל־תִּרְא֙וּנִי֙ שֶׁאֲנִ֣י שְׁחַרְחֹ֔רֶת שֶׁשֱּׁזָפַ֖תְנִי הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ בְּנֵ֧י אִמִּ֣י נִֽחֲרוּ־בִ֗י שָׂמֻ֙נִי֙ נֹטֵרָ֣ה אֶת־הַכְּרָמִ֔ים כַּרְמִ֥י שֶׁלִּ֖י לֹ֥א נָטָֽרְתִּי׃

Song of Songs 1:6

(6) Don’t stare at me because I am swarthy, Because the sun has gazed upon me. My mother’s sons quarreled with me, They made me guard the vineyards; My own vineyard I did not guard.

(ו) אֲמַרַת כְּנִשְׁתָּא דְּיִשְׂרָאֵל כָּל קֳבֵל עַמְמַיָּא לָא תְבַזּוֹן יָתִי עַל דַּאֲנָא קַדְרִיתָא מִנְּכוֹן עַל דַּעֲבַדִית כְּעוּבָדֵיכוֹן וּסְגֵידִית לְשִׁמְשָׁא וְסִהֲרָא דִּנְבִיאֵי שִׁקְרָא אִנּוּן גְּרַמוּ לְאִסְתַּקָּפָא תְּקוֹף רוּגְזָא דַּיָי עֲלַי וְאַלְּפוּנִי לְמִפְלַח לְטָעֲוָתְכוֹן וּלְהַלָּכָא בְּנִמּוֹסֵיכוֹן וּלְמָרֵי עָלְמָא דְּהוּא אֱלָהִי לָא פְלַחִית וְלָא אֲזַלִית בְּנִמּוֹסֵיהּ וְלָא נְטַרִית יָת פִּקּוֹדוֹי וְיָת אוֹרָיָתֵיהּ:

Aramaic Targum to Song of Songs 1:6

(6) 1:6 The Assembly of Israel said to the nations: “Do not despise me because I am darker than you, because I have done according to your deeds and have bowed down to the sun and the moon. For false prophets caused the powerful fury of YY to be drawn down upon me. They taught me to worship your idols and walk according to your laws. But the Lord of the World, who is my God, I did not serve and did not follow after His laws, nor keep His commands and His Law.”

אמרה כנסת ישראל לפני העמים, לא תביישו אותי שאני שחורה מכם על שעשיתי כמעשיכם והשתחויתי לשמש ולירח. שנביאי השקר הם גרמו לעולל חרון אף ה' בי ולימדוני לעבוד לאלוהיכם וללכת בדרככם ולאדון העולם שהוא אלוקי לא עבדתי ולא הלכתי בדרכיהם ולא שמרתי את מצוותיו ותורותיו.
