About This Text

Author: Shlomo ibn Adret (Rashba)
Composed: Barcelona, Spain, c.1270 – c.1310 CE
Torat HaBayit HaKatzar (“The Short Laws of the House”) is the Rashba’s abridgement of his Torat HaBayit HaArokh. Both works cover ritual observances relevant for maintaining a Jewish home, like kashrut, niddah, and mikvah immersion. Meant to serve as a guidebook, the Torat HaBayit HaKatzar focuses on practical law and omits the discussions and analyses that are characteristic of the longer version.
