About This Text

Author: Alexander Sender Schorr
Simla Chadasha (“New Dress”) is an 18th-century compilation of the laws of shechita (ritual slaughter) by Rabbi Alexander Sender Schorr, who is often referred to as the Simla Chadasha. Based heavily on the relevant sections in the Shulchan Arukh, the work briefly presents laws, explanations, and sources, and is printed together with an extensive legal commentary by the author called Tevuot Shor. The Simla Chadasha is considered the definitive Ashkenazic work on shechita, and it is standard for prospective Ashkenazi shochtim (ritual slaughterers) to be tested on the work’s contents. The work has been published well over a hundred times.
