About This Text

Author: A. Yehuda Warburg
Rabbinic Authority: The Vision and the Reality is a 21st-century work about the parameters and scope of rabbinic authority in general, and the workings of the institution of the beit din (Jewish court of law) in particular. In the work’s five volumes, the author presents rulings in cases of Jewish civil law that he handed down as a member of a beit din panel. Volume IV discusses family, children’s welfare, and the case of the modern day agunah, a wife who is unable to get divorced due to her husband’s recalcitrance.
