דּוֹפָן, דֹּפָן c. (דפן, v. דַּף) 1) board-partition, esp. a wall of the festive booth (סוּכָּה). Succ. 4ᵃ ד׳ האמצעי the middle of the three walls. Ib. ד׳ עקומה the curved wall, a legal fiction by which a part of the ceiling may be considered as part of a curved wall.—Ib. 6ᵇ; a. fr. —2) (trnsf.) side of a vessel, oppos. to bottom, rim &c. Ohol. IX, 16 תחת דָּפְנָהּ under the belly of its side; Tosef. ib. X, 9 דּוֹפְנָהּ. Ib. VII, 10 side of a cave, opp. to שקוף &c.; a. fr. —3) the chest surrounding the lungs, ribs, also a single rib. Ḥull. 48ᵃ, a. fr. ריאה הסמוכה לד׳ lungs adhering to the chest. Snh. 49ᵃ ד׳ חמישית the fifth rib (counting from the lowest). —4) the paries of the abdomen. יוצא ד׳ a fetus extracted by means of the cesarean section. Nidd.
