והנוגשי' אצים. פועל יוצא. כמלת שב וכמלת מש שימצא פעם יוצא ופעם עומד: AND THE TASKMASTERS WERE URGENT. Atzim (urgent) is a transitive verb.84It means urging; i.e., the taskmasters were urging them on. The word atz is usually intransitive in the kal, hence I.E.’s comment. It is like the word shav (returned) and the word mash (moved), which is sometimes found transitive and at times intransitive.
וטעם לאמר. לאמר להם: [SAYING.] Its meaning is, saying to them.85To the Israelites..
דבר יום ביומו. כמו מדי חדש בחדשו: DAILY. The phrase devar yom be-yomo (daily)86Literally, the matter of a day in its day. is similar to And from one sabbath to another (Is. 66:23).87It refers to something which comes around in a fixed time (Weiser).
