ובהעלות. בעבור עלות להב הפתילה נקרא כן והנה בהעלות פעל יוצא: LIGHTETH THE LAMPS. Scripture employs be-he’alot24From the root ayin, lamed, heh, which means to go up. for lighting because the flame of the wick goes up. Be-he’alot is clearly a transitive verb.25Meaning to cause a flame to go up.
קטורת תמיד. בעשות' עולות על כן הזכיר לדורותיכם: A PERPETUAL INCENSE. When they offer burnt offerings.26The law concerning the bringing of incense is contingent on the bringing of offerings. The law is suspended when offerings are not brought. Hence incense was offered only at Sinai, where Israel offered sacrifices. See I.E. on Ex. 29:42 (Krinsky).
