Memullach (seasoned with salt) means seasoned with salt from Sodom.182Keritot 6a. The reference is to sea salt. See Baba Batra 20b. Others say that memullach means thinly ground. Each piece of salt is to be destroyed, i.e., thinly ground. So Weiser and Filwarg. According to Weiser we should render I.E. as follows: Others say that memullach means thinly ground. It is possibly related to the word melechah (salt) in A salt land (Jer. 17:6). Krinsky renders, A salt land, a cut-off land. He explains, “Or it is related to the word melechah (salt) in A salt land as follows: Memullach means cut off from profane use, as it is related to the word melechah in Jer. 17:6. In other words, the sweet incense is to be cut off from all profane use, for it is a holy compound.
