לך ואספת. טעם אלהי אברהם שכרת ברית אתו לתת לו את ארץ כנען. GO, AND GATHER. Scripture reads, the God of Abraham378The name God is not repeated in our verse with Isaac or with Jacob. because God made a covenant with Abraham to give him the land of Canaan.379Canaan was first promised to Abraham (Gen. 15:18). God then promised Isaac and Jacob that he would keep the promise made to Abraham (Gen. 26:3-5; 35:11, 12) (Weiser).
והטעם פקוד באה עת פקודתם: [I HAVE SURELY REMEMBERED YOU.] The meaning of pakod (remembered) is that the time of their visitation had come.380The root peh, kof, dalet means to visit (cf. Ex. 20:5). Hence I.E.’s comment that pakod pakadti (I have surely remembered) means that the time that I should visit you (and keep my promise) has come. See Gen. 21:1 and the use of the word pakad therein.
