About This Text

Author: Yosef ibn Kaspi
Composed: Middle-Age Spain, c.1330 – c.1340 CE
Gevia Kesef, also called Yoreh Deah (Teacher of Knowledge) by the author, Rabbi Yosef ibn Kaspi, is a 14th-century work of philosophy and biblical commentary with the stated objective of sharing “secrets of the Torah” he had omitted from previous books. Topics relate primarily to the book of Genesis and include the variety of biblical names for God and a polemic against the Christian concept of the Trinity. Gevia Kesef was first published in 1982 by Rabbi Dr. Basil Herring, with an annotated English translation as well as an introduction to the author and the work.
