Strictures to Maimonides' Interpretation of the Account of the ChariotA Short Treatise on the Secrets of the Guide

About This Text

Author: Isaac Abarbanel
Composed: Venice, c.1492 – c.1508 CE
Abarbanel’s commentary on Maimonides’ Guide for the Perplexed, like his more widely known Bible commentary, demonstrates both respect for Maimonides and a willingness to argue with him, especially in cases of extreme rationalism such as Maimonides’ naturalistic view of prophecy and his non-literal interpretations of certain biblical passages. Abarbanel often quotes other commentaries on the Guide, including Joseph ibn Kaspi and Moses ben Joshua of Narbonne (Narboni).
