(ח) שְׁמַ֣ע בְּ֭נִי מוּסַ֣ר אָבִ֑יךָ וְאַל־תִּ֝טֹּ֗שׁ תּוֹרַ֥ת אִמֶּֽךָ׃

(8) Listen, my child, to your father's instruction, and do not forsake your mother's teaching.

(ז) רֵאשִׁ֣ית חָ֭כְמָה קְנֵ֣ה חָכְמָ֑ה וּבְכָל־קִ֝נְיָנְךָ֗ קְנֵ֣ה בִינָֽה׃
(7) The beginning of wisdom is: get wisdom. Though it cost everything you have, get understanding.
(Alternate translation: The beginning of wisdom is, acquire wisdom. With everything you have, acquire wisdom.)

(כג) מִֽכָּל־מִ֭שְׁמָר נְצֹ֣ר לִבֶּ֑ךָ כִּֽי־מִ֝מֶּ֗נּוּ תּוֹצְא֥וֹת חַיִּֽים׃
(23) Above all else, guard your heart; for that is where life flows from.

(ו) לֵֽךְ־אֶל־נְמָלָ֥ה עָצֵ֑ל רְאֵ֖ה דְרָכֶ֣יהָ וַחֲכָֽם׃
(6) Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and grow wise.

(יז) עֵינַ֣יִם רָ֭מוֹת לְשׁ֣וֹן שָׁ֑קֶר וְ֝יָדַ֗יִם שֹׁפְכ֥וֹת דָּם־נָקִֽי׃ (יח) לֵ֗ב חֹ֭רֵשׁ מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת אָ֑וֶן רַגְלַ֥יִם מְ֝מַהֲר֗וֹת לָר֥וּץ לָֽרָעָה׃ (יט) יָפִ֣יחַ כְּ֭זָבִים עֵ֣ד שָׁ֑קֶר וּמְשַׁלֵּ֥חַ מְ֝דָנִ֗ים בֵּ֣ין אַחִֽים׃ (פ)
A list of things God hates:
(17) Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood;
(18) A heart that devises wicked thoughts, feet that run quickly towards evil;
(19) A false witness that breathes lies, and a person who sows discord among brothers.

(יב) בָּז־לְרֵעֵ֥הוּ חֲסַר־לֵ֑ב וְאִ֖ישׁ תְּבוּנ֣וֹת יַחֲרִֽישׁ׃
(12) One who despises their neighbor lacks insight (lit. "lacks heart"), while a discerning person remains silent.

(א) אֹהֵ֣ב מ֭וּסָר אֹ֣הֵֽב דָּ֑עַת וְשֹׂנֵ֖א תוֹכַ֣חַת בָּֽעַר׃
(1) One who loves knowledge, loves correction; but a fool hates reproof.

(כ) הלוך [הוֹלֵ֣ךְ] אֶת־חֲכָמִ֣ים וחכם [יֶחְכָּ֑ם] וְרֹעֶ֖ה כְסִילִ֣ים יֵרֽוֹעַ׃
(20) One who walks with the wise shall be wise, while a companion of fools will come to harm.

(כד) חוֹשֵׂ֣ךְ שִׁ֭בְטוֹ שׂוֹנֵ֣א בְנ֑וֹ וְ֝אֹהֲב֗וֹ שִֽׁחֲר֥וֹ מוּסָֽר׃
(24) ...A parent who loves their child, disciplines them. (Note: this is the second half of the much-harder-to-deal-with "Spare the rod, spoil the child" verse.)

(א) מַֽעֲנֶה־רַּ֭ךְ יָשִׁ֣יב חֵמָ֑ה וּדְבַר־עֶ֝֗צֶב יַעֲלֶה־אָֽף׃
(1) A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a painful word stirs up anger.

(טז) טוֹב־מְ֭עַט בְּיִרְאַ֣ת יְהוָ֑ה מֵאוֹצָ֥ר רָ֝֗ב וּמְה֥וּמָה בֽוֹ׃
(16) Better few possesions and fear [or awe] of God, than great treasure and inner turmoil.

(יז) מְסִלַּ֣ת יְ֭שָׁרִים ס֣וּר מֵרָ֑ע שֹׁמֵ֥ר נַ֝פְשׁ֗וֹ נֹצֵ֥ר דַּרְכּֽוֹ׃
(17) The path of the righteous leads away from evil; those who walk carefully preserve their souls.
(Alternate translation: The path of the upright turns from evil; those who guard their ways, protect their souls.)

(יח) לִפְנֵי־שֶׁ֥בֶר גָּא֑וֹן וְלִפְנֵ֥י כִ֝שָּׁל֗וֹן גֹּ֣בַהּ רֽוּחַ׃
(18) Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

(ט) לֵ֣ב אָ֭דָם יְחַשֵּׁ֣ב דַּרְכּ֑וֹ וַֽ֝יהוָ֗ה יָכִ֥ין צַעֲדֽוֹ׃
(9) In their hearts, people plan their way; but God directs their steps. (Alternate translation: People plan their paths, but God arranges their steps.)

(יז) בְּכָל־עֵ֭ת אֹהֵ֣ב הָרֵ֑עַ וְאָ֥ח לְ֝צָרָ֗ה יִוָּלֵֽד׃
(17) A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. (Alternate translation: A friend loves in every season, and a brother is born for a difficult time.)

(כב) לֵ֣ב שָׂ֭מֵחַ יֵיטִ֣ב גֵּהָ֑ה וְר֥וּחַ נְ֝כֵאָ֗ה תְּיַבֶּשׁ־גָּֽרֶם׃
(22) A happy heart is good medicine, and a broken spirit dries the bones.

(כד) אִ֣ישׁ רֵ֭עִים לְהִתְרֹעֵ֑עַ וְיֵ֥שׁ אֹ֝הֵ֗ב דָּבֵ֥ק מֵאָֽח׃
(24) There are friends that hurt a person, and there are loved ones closer than a brother. (Alternate translation: A person can have friends who cause harm, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.)

(כא) רַבּ֣וֹת מַחֲשָׁב֣וֹת בְּלֶב־אִ֑ישׁ וַעֲצַ֥ת יְ֝הוָ֗ה הִ֣יא תָקֽוּם׃
(21) There are many thoughts in a person's heart, but the intention of God, that shall stand. (Alternate translation: There are many thoughts in a person's mind, but it is God's purpose that will prevail.)

(א) נִבְחָ֣ר שֵׁ֭ם מֵעֹ֣שֶׁר רָ֑ב מִכֶּ֥סֶף וּ֝מִזָּהָ֗ב חֵ֣ן טֽוֹב׃
(1) Choose a good name over great riches, and love over silver and gold. (Alternate translation: A good name is preferable to great riches, and kindness is preferable to silver and gold.)

(ו) חֲנֹ֣ךְ לַ֭נַּעַר עַל־פִּ֣י דַרְכּ֑וֹ גַּ֥ם כִּֽי־יַ֝זְקִ֗ין לֹֽא־יָס֥וּר מִמֶּֽנָּה׃
(6) Raise a child on the right path, and even when he is old, he will not swerve from it. (Alternate translation: Educate a child according to his way; even when he is old, he will not turn from it.)

(א) אַֽל־תִּ֭תְהַלֵּל בְּי֣וֹם מָחָ֑ר כִּ֤י לֹא־תֵ֝דַ֗ע מַה־יֵּ֥לֶד יֽוֹם׃
(1) Do not boast about tomorrow, for you never know what a day might bring.

(י) רֵֽעֲךָ֨ ורעה [וְרֵ֪עַ] אָבִ֡יךָ אַֽל־תַּעֲזֹ֗ב וּבֵ֥ית אָחִ֗יךָ אַל־תָּ֭בוֹא בְּי֣וֹם אֵידֶ֑ךָ ט֥וֹב שָׁכֵ֥ן קָ֝ר֗וֹב מֵאָ֥ח רָחֽוֹק׃
(10) .... Better is a neighbor that is near than a brother far off. (Alternate translation: Better a close neighbor than a distant brother.)

(יד) מְבָ֘רֵ֤ךְ רֵעֵ֨הוּ ׀ בְּק֣וֹל גָּ֭דוֹל בַּבֹּ֣קֶר הַשְׁכֵּ֑ים קְ֝לָלָ֗ה תֵּחָ֥שֶׁב לֽוֹ׃
(14) If a person blesses his friend with a loud voice, early in the morning, it will feel like a curse to him. (Alternate translation: One who blesses his friend loudly in the early morning will be considered a curse to him.)

(יט) כַּ֭מַּיִם הַפָּנִ֣ים לַפָּנִ֑ים כֵּ֤ן לֵֽב־הָ֝אָדָ֗ם לָאָדָֽם׃
(19) As water reflects a face to a face, So the heart of a person reflects another's heart. (Alternate translation: As water reflects a face back to a face, so one's heart is reflected back to them by another.)

(ו) טֽוֹב־רָ֭שׁ הוֹלֵ֣ךְ בְּתֻמּ֑וֹ מֵעִקֵּ֥שׁ דְּ֝רָכַ֗יִם וְה֣וּא עָשִֽׁיר׃
(6) Better to be poor with integrity, than rich and twisted.
