Upcoming Changes to the Source Sheet Editor Experience
The idea behind source sheets has always been to make it easier for users to combine and share Torah texts. Simple. We’re still looking for more ways to make that sharing experience even smoother.
That’s why we launched an updated version of the source sheet editor in 2022 and a browser extension that integrates the library with Google Docs in 2024. It’s also why, starting April 27, 2025, the older version of the editor will be retired, and the updated editor will become the default for all users.
After this date, you might notice some formatting changes to existing sheets that were created using the old editor. Don’t worry, though! There are plenty of ways to preserve your existing sheets and keep on creating new ones! Here’s what you need to know.

How to Use the Updated Editor

The updated source sheet editor (version 3.0) is easy to use, allowing you to compile a diverse range of sources, including text, images, and media, into a shareable digital document.
Key Features of the Updated Editor:
  • Edit and read seamlessly, all in one place. Users no longer need to toggle between edit and library modes.
  • Add content anywhere, without using a specific module. Users can click anywhere on the sheet to add sources, images, and media using the available icons.
  • Forget about the Save button! Automatic saving means your work is saved automatically as you go.

How to Use the Google Docs Browser Extension

The Sefaria for Google Docs extension brings Sefaria’s extensive library directly into the Google Docs editor.
With this extension, you can:
  • Add sources to your Doc in one click. Users can insert Jewish texts into any Google Doc in any language — with or without translation.
  • Cite your sources with ease. Users can both insert textual citations into a Google Doc document and link them to the Sefaria library.
  • Adjust the formatting of the Divine Name within your text. Reformat any instances of the Divine Name with a single click.

How to Export and Print Your Source Sheets

When you export your sheet as a Google Doc, you can format and edit it using all of Google Docs's powerful formatting tools. Alternatively, you can export your source sheet as a PDF, allowing you to preserve the formatting exactly as it is.
Please note that once a sheet is exported, it cannot be imported back into Sefaria. Be sure to finalize your edits before exporting.
