(6) Rabbi Chalafta ben Dosa of Kfar Chananiah says:

Ten who are sitting together and engaging in Torah, the Divine Presence rests among them, as it is said: “God stands in the congregation of God." (Psalms 82:1)

And from where [is there proof that this is true] even [when there are only] five? As it is said: “And He has founded His band upon the earth.” (Amos 9:6)

And from where even three? As it is said: “In the midst of judges He judges.” (Psalms 82:1)

And from where even two? As it is said: “Then those who feared the Lord spoke one with another, and the Lord hearkened and heard.” (Malachi 3:16)

And from where even one? As it is said: “In every place where I cause My Name to be mentioned I will come to you and bless you.” (Exodus 20:20)

(1) A psalm of Asaph. God stands in the divine assembly; among the divine beings He pronounces judgment. (2) How long will you judge perversely, showing favor to the wicked? Selah. (3) Judge the wretched and the orphan, vindicate the lowly and the poor, (4) rescue the wretched and the needy; save them from the hand of the wicked. (5) They neither know nor understand, they go about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth totter. (6) I had taken you for divine beings, sons of the Most High, all of you; (7) but you shall die as men do, fall like any prince. (8) Arise, O God, judge the earth, for all the nations are Your possession.

(6) Who built His chambers in heaven And founded His vault on the earth, Who summons the waters of the sea And pours them over the land - His name is the LORD.

(16) In this vein have those who revere the LORD been talking to one another. The LORD has heard and noted it, and a scroll of remembrance has been written at His behest concerning those who revere the LORD and esteem His name.

(21) Make for Me an altar of earth and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your sacrifices of well-being, your sheep and your oxen; in every place where I cause My name to be mentioned I will come to you and bless you.

What is a minyan?
A minyan is comprised of enough Jews, usually ten, who can recite devarim shebik'dushah ("holy prayers") when together. These include:
  • Kaddish
  • Barchu
  • The Repetition of the Amidah
  • The Priestly Blessing
  • The reading of the Torah and the Haftarah
  • The Seven Blessings recited at a wedding and at the post-wedding feasts
  • The introductory prayer to the Grace after Meals which includes G‑d's name ("Zimun BeShem")
  • The Thirteen Attributes recited when taking out the Torah on holidays
