(א) בֶּן זוֹמָא אוֹמֵר... אֵיזֶהוּ מְכֻבָּד, הַמְכַבֵּד אֶת הַבְּרִיּוֹת, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר (שמואל א ב) כִּי מְכַבְּדַי אֲכַבֵּד וּבֹזַי יֵקָלּוּ:
(1) Ben Zoma says: ... Who is honored? He who honors the created beings, as it says, "For those who honor Me, I will honor; and those who despise Me will be held in little esteem" (I Samuel 2:30).
(יא) כל מה שברא הקדוש ברוך הוא בעולמו, לא בראו אלא לכבודו,
שנאמר: כל הנקרא בשמי ולכבודי בראתיו יצרתיו אף עשיתיו,
ואומר: ה' ימלך לעלם ועד.
(11) Everything that the Holy One, Blessed be He, created in this world, He created only for His honor, as it says (Isaiah 43:7): "Every one that is called by My name, and whom I have created for My honor, I have formed him, yes, I have made him." And it also says (Exodus 15:18 ), "The Lord shall reign for ever and ever."
רַבִּי אַבָּא אָמַר, בְּכַמָּה אֲתָר תָּנֵינָן, דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא, כָּל מַה דְּעָבַד לְעֵילָּא וְתַתָּא כֹּלָּא אִיהוּ קְשׁוֹט, וְעוֹבָדָא דִּקְשׁוֹט. וְלֵית לָךְ מִלָּה בְּעָלְמָא דְּבָעֵי בַּר נָשׁ לְדַחְיָא לֵיהּ מִנֵּיהּ, וּלְאַנְהָגָא בֵּיהּ קְלָנָא, דְּהָא כֻּלְּהוּ עוֹבָדָא דִּקְשׁוֹט אִינּוּן, וְכֹלָּא אִצְטְרִיךְ בְּעָלְמָא.
דְּהָא זִמְנָא חֲדָא, הֲוָה ר' אֶלְעָזָר אָזִיל בְּאָרְחָא, וַהֲוָה אָזִיל עִמֵּיהּ ר' חִזְקִיָּה, חָמוּ חַד חִוְיָא, קָם ר' חִזְקִיָּה לְמִקְטְלֵיהּ. אֲמַר לֵיהּ ר' אֶלְעָזָר, שָׁבִיק לֵיהּ לָא תְּקַטְלִינֵיהּ. אֲמַר לֵיהּ, וְהָא מִלָּה בִּישָׁא אִיהוּ, דְּקָטִיל בְּנִי נָשָׁא. אֲמַר לֵיהּ לְרַ' חִזְקִיָּה, וְהָא כְּתִיב (קהלת י:יא) אִם יִשּׁוֹךְ הַנָּחָשׁ בְּלֹא לָחַשׁ. לָא נָשִׁיךְ חִוְיָא לְבַר נָשׁ, עַד דְּלָחֲשִׁין לֵיהּ מִלְּעֵילָּא, וְאַמְרֵי לֵיהּ זִיל קָטִיל לֵיהּ לִפְלָנַיָּא...
וְכֹלָּא בִּידָא דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא תַּלְיָא, וְכֹלָּא אִיהוּ עוֹבָדֵי יְדוֹי, וְאִצְטְרִיךְ עָלְמָא לְהוּ, וְאִי לָאו דְּאִיצְטְרִיךָ לוֹן עָלְמָא, לָא עָבֵד לוֹן קוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא. וְעַל דָּא לָא בָּעֵי בַּר נָשׁ לְאַנְהָגָא בְּהוּ קְלָנָא בְּמִלֵּי דְּעָלְמָא. בְּמִלּוֹי וּבְעוֹבָדוֹי דְּקוּדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא עַל אַחַת כַּמָּה וְכַמָּה.
Rabbi Abba said, in many places we taught, that everything Hashem does above and below is truth, and what He does is truth, and there is nothing in the world that a person should reject and treat with disrespect, because everything is the truth, and everything is needed in the world.
For one time, Rabbi Elazar was walking on a path, and Rabbi Chizkiya was walking with him. They saw a snake and Rabbi Chizkiya got up to kill it. Rabbi Elazar said to him, "Leave it, don't kill it." [Rabbi Chizkiya] responded, "But it's a bad thing, for it kills people." [Rabbi Elazar] said to Rabbi Chizkiya, "But it says in the verse (Koheles 10:11) 'If a snake will kill without a whisper'. A snake does not bite a person until he is whispered to from Above to kill the person...
And everything is in the hands of Hashem, and everything is the work of His hands, and the world needs it, and if the world didn't need it, Hashem wouldn't have made it. And this is why a person should not disrespect anything in the world. And in the matters and actions of Hashem, how much more so.
(26) Then his brother emerged, holding on to the heel of Esau; so they named him Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when they were born. (27) When the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the outdoors; but Jacob was a simple man who stayed in the tent.
(יב) ויאמר עשו הלעיטני נא מן האדום אמר רבי זעירא: פער פיו אותו הרשע כגמל. אמר לו: אנא פתח פומי, תהי משתדר ואזיל!
"And Esav said, 'Give me some of that red stuff to pour down.'" That wicked person (Esav) opened his mouth like a camel and said, "I open my mouth and you keep on pouring in".
כי אתא רבין אמר ר' יוחנן אמר קרא (דברים טז, יג) באספך מגרנך ומיקבך בפסולת גורן ויקב הכתוב מדבר
When Ravin came, he said in the name of R. Yohanan: Scripture says, "When you gather in from your threshingfloor and your winepress" (Deuteronomy 16:13). The verse thus speaks of the waste from the threshing-floor and the waste from the wine-press.
