  • Not Your Grandmother's Sukkah: Sukkot from Neot Kedumim - Have you ever seen a sukkah on a camel, or a sukkah on top of another sukkah? Neot Kedumim, the Biblical Landscape Reserve in Israel, attempts to recreate the physical setting of the Bible and enable its visitors to see life as it was lived by our ancestors thousands of years ago. This collection features highlights from the park’s special Sukkot Exhibit, which depicts the many varieties of sukkot that appear in the Mishnah. We’ve also created activities for students to engage in based on these unique sukkot.

The lesson includes class discussion questions and ideas for individual, creative activities. The lesson was written for students in grades 6-8 but can be adapted for other levels.

  • Ecclesiastes/Kohelet - Often read publicly on the holiday of Sukkot, the book explores the meaning of life, reckoning with death, futility, and purpose.
  • Kohelet Rabbah - A new English translation of Kohelet Rabbah, a midrash on Ecclesiastes with verse-by-verse interpretations, compiled between the 6th and 8th centuries.
  • Mishnah Sukkah 5:1-4 - Description of the Simchat Beit HaShoevah (Celebration of the Water Drawing) which was celebrated in the days of the Temple during chol hamoed Sukkot.
