    Exodus 25:18-20
    (18) Make two cherubim of gold—make them of hammered work—at the two ends of the cover. (19) Make one cherub at one end and the other cherub at the other end; of one piece with the cover shall you make the cherubim at its two ends. (20) The cherubim shall have their wings spread out above, shielding the cover with their wings. They shall confront each other, the faces of the cherubim being turned toward the cover.

    (א) מאימתי קורין את שמע בערבית. משעה שהכהנים נכנסים לאכול בתרומתן. עד סוף האשמורה הראשונה.

    Mishnah Berakhot 1:1

    (1) From when may one recite Shema in the evening? From the time when the Kohanim go in to eat their Terumah [produce consecrated for priestly consumption], until the end of the first watch.

    בכל דור ודור חייב אדם לראות את עצמו כאילו הוא יצא ממצרים שנאמר (שמות יג, ח) והגדת לבנך ביום ההוא לאמר בעבור זה עשה יקוק לי בצאתי ממצרים לפיכך אנחנו חייבים להודות להלל לשבח לפאר לרומם להדר לברך לעלה ולקלס למי שעשה לאבותינו ולנו את כל הנסים האלו הוציאנו מעבדות לחרות מיגון לשמחה ומאבל ליום טוב ומאפלה לאור גדול ומשעבוד לגאולה ונאמר לפניו הללויה

    Pesachim 116b:3-4

    In each and every generation one is obligated to see themselves as if they went out from Egypt, as it says (Exodus 13:8) And you shall tell you child on that day, saying: Because of this, YHVH did for me when I went out from Egypt. Therefore we are obligated to offer effusive, beautiful praise and thanksgiving to the One who performed all these miracles for our ancestors and for us: God brought us from servitude to freedom, from grief to joy, from mourning to festivity, from darkness to great light, and from subjugation to redemption; and let us say before Him "Halleluyah!" 

  7. Roots and Wings

     

    I want to be a person both with roots and with wings.
    Why should one give
    ​ up the roots, if his heart desires wings?...
    The roots are missing so much when they are stuck deep
    in the ground, and cannot fly and see the tremendous top of the tree that
    they are part of, and the great forest that the whole tree is part of.

    And the birds on the tree, who are lucky to have wings, are missing the
    grip on the ground, and their nests are dependent on the mercy of the
    storm, and the strength of the tree under whose wings they take shelter.

    Therefore, I concluded, when I grow up I want to be a man with roots and wings.
