Finding Ruth Clue #4

You found it! The Torah lists a whole bunch of laws which help the poor in the community including the laws to leave the corners of the field for the poor and to leave the produce that falls from the trees or from the hands of the harvesters for the poor. People who needed food would go into the fields and pick up the produce that had fallen or picked from the corners of the fields.

The Gleaners by Jean-François Millet, 1857 (Public Domain)

When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap all the way to the edges of your field, or gather the gleanings of your harvest. You shall not pick your vineyard bare, or gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger: I the LORD am your God.

Clue #4

As the story continues, Ruth gleans in Boaz's field. Although Ruth doesn't know it at the time, Boaz is Naomi's relative. Boaz sees Ruth and discovers that she is his relative and, although he doesn't tell Ruth about their relationship, he treats her extra kindly. In chapter 2, verse 10, Ruth asks Boaz why he is being so kind to her.
