(2) Oh, give me of the kisses of your mouth,
For your love is more delightful than wine.

On the matter of cleaving to the Holy One--this is achieved by means of the letters contained within the Torah and of the liturgy. One can cleave their thoughts and their inwardness toward the inner spirit within the letters, as it secretly expressed "Oh give me of the kisses of your mouth," cleaving breath to breath, as I heard from my teacher "even for those of you who lie among the sheepfolds there are wings of a dove sheathed in silver, its pinions in fine gold.”
נִמְצָא, שֶׁהָאַרְבַּע כּוֹסוֹת הֵם כְּנֶגֶד אַרְבַּע בְּחִינוֹת שֶׁכְּלוּלִים בֶּאֱמוּנָה כַּנַּ"ל וּבִשְׁבִיל זֶה מְבָרְכִין אוֹתָם עַל הַיַּיִן, כִּי הַיַּיִן מֵרִים אֶת הַדַּעַת לְמַעְלָה מִמַּדְרֵגָתוֹ, וְעַל-כֵּן הַיַּיִן כָּלוּל מִשְּׁנֵי בְּחִינוֹת לְהֵטִיב אוֹ לְהָרַע, חַס וְשָׁלוֹם, כְּמוֹ שֶׁאָמְרוּ רַבּוֹתֵינוּ זִכְרוֹנָם לִבְרָכָה זָכָה-נַעֲשֶׂה רֹאשׁ. לֹא זָכָה-נַעֲשֶׂה רָשׁ, זָכָה-מְשַׂמְּחוֹ, לֹא זָכָה-מְשַׁמְּמוֹ. וְעַל-כֵּן אִי אֶפְשָׁר לִשְׁתּוֹת יַיִן כִּי אִם בִּקְדֻשָּׁה גְּדוֹלָה כְּשֶׁזּוֹכֶה לְתַקֵּן הַבְּרִית שֶׁהִיא בְּחִינַת יוֹסֵף בְּחִינַת צִיצִית שֶׁעַל-יְדֵי זֶה זוֹכִין לְעֵצוֹת קְדוֹשׁוֹת וּלֶאֱמֶת וֶאֱמוּנָה כַּנַּ"ל, וְאָז יָכוֹל לִזְכּוֹת עַל-יְדֵי הַיַּיִן שֶׁיִּתְרוֹמֵם מֹחוֹ בִּקְדֻשָּׁה וְיָכוֹל אָז לְהִתְלַהֵב יוֹתֵר לְהַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ וּלְהִתְעוֹרֵר יוֹתֵר לַעֲבוֹדַת הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ, כִּי מֵחֲמַת שֶׁנִּתְרוֹמֵם מֹחוֹ וְנִתְרַחֵב דַּעְתּוֹ יָכוֹל לַעֲלוֹת לְשֹׁרֶשׁ הַדַּעַת שֶׁהוּא בְּחִינַת שֹׁרֶשׁ הַתּוֹרָה וְהַמִּצְווֹת שֶׁשָּׁם הוּא לְמַעְלָה מִכָּל מִצְוֹת הַתּוֹרָה וְכָל הַמִּצְווֹת מְקַבְּלִין חִיּוּת וְהֶאָרָה מִשָּׁם וּכְשֶׁעוֹלֶה לְשָׁם נִתְלַהֵב בְּיוֹתֵר וְנִתְחַזֵּק בְּיוֹתֵר לְקַיֵּם מִצְווֹת הַתּוֹרָה. מֵחֲמַת שֶׁמַּמְשִׁיךְ עַל עַצְמוֹ אוֹר שֹׁרֶשׁ הַמִּצְווֹת, שֶׁעַל-יְדֵי זֶה נִתְחַזְּקִין אֶצְלוֹ קִיּוּם הַמִּצְווֹת בְּיוֹתֵר. אֲבָל לְהֵפֶךְ, חַס וְשָׁלוֹם, כְּשֶׁאֵין זוֹכֶה לַבְּחִינוֹת הַנַּ"ל וְאֵין אֱמוּנָתוֹ שְׁלֵמָה עֲדַיִן, אֲזַי עַל-יְדֵי שְׁתִיַּת הַיַּיִן וְהַשִּׁכְרוּת יָכוֹל לְקַלְקֵל מְאֹד, כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתוּב, יִתֵּן בַּכּוֹס עֵינוֹ יִתְהַלֵּךְ בְּמֵשָׁרִים, שֶׁכָּל הַדְּרָכִים דּוֹמוֹת עָלָיו כְּמִישׁוֹר, כִּי מֵחֲמַת שֶׁנִּתְרוֹמֵם מֹחוֹ לְמַעְלָה מִכְּלֵי הַמֹּחִין שֶׁלּוֹ, עַל-כֵּן אֵינוֹ רוֹאֶה עוֹד לְפִי בְּחִינָתוֹ כָּל הָאַזְהָרוֹת שֶׁל הַמִּצְוֹת שֶׁל מֹשֶׁה רַבֵּנוּ, כְּמוֹ שֶׁכָּתַב רַבֵּנוּ זִכְרוֹנוֹ לִבְרָכָה שֶׁעַל-יְדֵי שִׁכְרוּת שׁוֹכֵחַ כָּל הָאַזְהָרוֹת שֶׁל מֹשֶׁה. כִּי מֹשֶׁה רַבֵּנוּ מְלֻבָּשׁ בְּכָל אֶחָד מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל בְּכָל אֵבָר אֵבָר וְהוּא מַזְכִּיר אֶת כָּל אֵבָר וְאֵבָר אֶת הַמִּצְוָה הַשַּׁיָּכָה לְאוֹתָה אֵבָר, וְעַל-יְדֵי הַשִּׁכְרוּת מַפְשִׁיט אֶת הַדַּעַת עַד שֶׁאֵינוֹ שׁוֹמֵעַ כָּל אֵלּוּ הָאַזְהָרוֹת עַד שֶׁכָּל הַדְּרָכִים דּוֹמוֹת עָלָיו כְּמִישׁוֹר:
Wine raises the awareness beyond its level…for this reason one needs to drink wine in a state of great sacredness…and through it one can receive holy guidance, truth and faith. Then, through drinking wine, one’s consciousness can become elevated in holiness and one can experience great passion for the Blessed Divine and be awakened to Divine devotion. For since one’s consciousness has been elevated and their awareness is expanded, they can ascend to the root of all awareness, which is the source of the Torah and commandments that transcends all of the Torah’s commandments, and from which all of the commandments receive their vitality and illumination. And when one ascends to that level, one experiences great passion and strength to fulfill the Torah’s commandments… Therefore on Passover, when the light of Truth itself is revealed, which transcends all levels of the mind…there is an obligation to drink the four cups of wine. For it is now, specifically through the wine, that one’s consciousness can be elevated to receive the light of Truth itself…which is the light of all consciousness that transcends and precedes the vessels of our consciousness. And the Blessed Divine has compassion toward us and grants us the ability to receive this illumination in a holy way. And this is the primary quality of redemption. Therefore we need to specifically drink wine, which elevates the mind beyond its state.
