כי בג' דברים מאסו ישראל בימי רחבעם: במלכות שמים ובמלכות דוד ובבית המקדש,
.ושאין מראין סימן גאולה לישראל עד שיבקשו שלשתם
(1) Now there happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheva, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite; and he blew the shofar, and said: ‘We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Yishai; every man to his tents, O Israel.’
(ה) אַחַ֗ר יָשֻׁ֙בוּ֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וּבִקְשׁוּ֙ אֶת־ה' אֱלֹקיהֶ֔ם וְאֵ֖ת דָּוִ֣ד מַלְכָּ֑ם וּפָחֲד֧וּ אֶל־ה' וְאֶל־טוּב֖וֹ בְּאַחֲרִ֥ית הַיָּמִֽים׃ (פ)
(5) afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall come trembling unto the LORD and to His goodness in the end of days.
מקום שבעלי תשובה עומדין צדיקים גמורים אינם עומדין
In the place where the ba'alei teshuva stand, the perfectly righteous are unable to occupy
(זכריה יד, ט) והיה ה' למלך על כל הארץ ביום ההוא יהיה ה' אחד ושמו אחד. אטו האידנא לאו אחד הוא? אמר רבי אחא בר חנינא: לא כעולם הזה העולם הבא, העולם הזה על בשורות טובות אומר ברוך הטוב והמטיב ועל בשורות רעות אומר ברוך דיין האמת. לעולם הבא כולו הטוב והמטיב.
הטוב והמטיב ביבנה תקנוה כנגד הרוגי ביתר דאמר רב מתנא אותו היום שניתנו הרוגי ביתר לקבורה תקנו ביבנה הטוב והמטיב הטוב שלא הסריחו והמטיב שניתנו לקבורה:
The benediction "Who art kind and dealest kindly" was instituted in Yavneh in connection with the slain of Beitar ; for Rav Mattena said: On the day the slain of Beitar were allowed burial, there was instituted in Yavneh the benediction, "Who art kind and dealest kindly" — "Who art kind," because the bodies did not decompose; "and dealest kindly," because they were allowed burial.
