(21) You rely, of all things, on Egypt, that splintered reed of a staff, which enters and punctures the palm of anyone who leans on it! That’s what Pharaoh king of Egypt is like to all who rely on him.

MISHNA: How is the mitzva of Arava fulfilled? There was a place below Jerusalem, called Motza. They would descend there and gather willow branches [murbiyyot] and then come to the Temple and stand the branches upright at the sides of the altar, such that the tops of the branches inclined over the top of the altar. They then sounded a tekia, a terua, and another tekia. ...
GEMARA: It was taught: Motza, which was mentioned in the mishna, was a Roman military colony [kelanya]. Why was it Motza? Because it was exempted from the king’s tax [karga], they call it Motza, meaning removed.
"...As for Hezekiah the Judahite, who did not submit to my yoke: forty-six of his strong, walled cities, as well as the small towns in their area, which were without number, by levelling with battering-rams and by bringing up seige-engines, and by attacking and storming on foot, by mines, tunnels, and breeches, I besieged and took them. 200,150 people, great and small, male and female, horses, mules, asses, camels, cattle and sheep without number, I brought away from them and counted as spoil. (Hezekiah) himself, like a caged bird I shut up in Jerusalem, his royal city. I threw up earthworks against him? the one coming out of the city-gate, I turned back to his misery. His cities, which I had despoiled, I cut off from his land, and to Mitinti, king of Ashdod, Padi, king of Ekron, and Silli-b?l, king of Gaza, I gave (them). And thus I diminished his land. I added to the former tribute, and I laid upon him the surrender of their land and imposts?gifts for my majesty. As for Hezekiah, the terrifying splendor of my majesty overcame him, and the Arabs and his mercenary troops which he had brought in to strengthen Jerusalem, his royal city, deserted him. In addition to the thirty talents of gold and eight hundred talents of silver, gems, antimony, jewels, large carnelians, ivory-inlaid couches, ivory-inlaid chairs, elephant hides, elephant tusks, ebony, boxwood, all kinds of valuable treasures, as well as his daughters, his harem, his male and female musicians, which he had brought after me to Nineveh, my royal city. To pay tribute and to accept servitude, he dispatched his messengers."

(8) And you, O Migdal-eder, Outpost of Fair Zion, It shall come to you: The former monarchy shall return— The kingship of Fair Jerusalem. (9) Now why do you utter such cries? Is there no king in you, Have your advisors perished, That you have been seized by writhing Like a woman in travail? (10) Writhe and scream, Fair Zion, Like a woman in travail! For now you must leave the city And dwell in the country— And you will reach Babylon. There you shall be saved, There the LORD will redeem you From the hands of your foes. (11) Indeed, many nations Have assembled against you Who think, “Let our eye Obscenely gaze on Zion.” (12) But they do not know The design of the LORD, They do not divine His intent: He has gathered them Like cut grain to the threshing floor. (13) Up and thresh, Fair Zion! For I will give you horns of iron And provide you with hoofs of bronze, And you will crush the many peoples. You will devote their riches to the LORD, Their wealth to the Lord of all the earth.
