(א) וַיְדַבֵּר יְ-הוָה אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר. (ב) דַּבֵּר אֶל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְיִקְחוּ לִי תְּרוּמָה מֵאֵת כָּל אִישׁ אֲשֶׁר יִדְּבֶנּוּ לִבּוֹ תִּקְחוּ אֶת תְּרוּמָתִי. (ג) וְזֹאת הַתְּרוּמָה אֲשֶׁר תִּקְחוּ מֵאִתָּם זָהָב וָכֶסֶף וּנְחֹשֶׁת. (ד) וּתְכֵלֶת וְאַרְגָּמָן וְתוֹלַעַת שָׁנִי וְשֵׁשׁ וְעִזִּים. (ה) וְעֹרֹת אֵילִם מְאָדָּמִים וְעֹרֹת תְּחָשִׁים וַעֲצֵי שִׁטִּים.
(1) And G-d spoke to Moses, saying: (2) ’Speak to the children of Israel, that they take for Me an offering; of every man whose heart motivate him shall he take My offering. (3) And this is the offering which you shall take from them: gold, silver and brass; (4) and blue, purple and scarlet linens, and goats’hair; (5) and rams’ skins dyed red, and techashim, and acacia-wood;
ג) "ועצי שטים" - ומאין היו להם במדבר פירש רבי תנחומא יעקב אבינו צפה ברוח הקודש שעתידין ישראל לבנות משכן במדבר והביא ארזים למצרים ונטעם וצוה לבניו ליטלם עמהם כשיצאו ממצרים
(3) Shittim Wood (a kind of cedar) - From where did they have this wood in the desert?
Rebi Tanchuma explained: Our forefather, Yaakov, perceived through Divine inspiration that in the future, the Jewish people would build a dwelling in desert and so he brought cedars to Egypt and planted them. And he commanded his children to take them with them when they would leave Egypt.
(35) And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they asked of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment.
(22) And Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.
(א) "ויסע משה" - (מכילתא) הסיען בעל כרחם שעטרו מצרים סוסיהם בתכשיטי זהב וכסף ואבנים טובות (מכילתא) והיו ישראל מוצאין אותם בים וגדולה היתה ביזת הים מביזת מצרים שנא' (שיר א) תורי זהב נעשה לך עם נקודות הכסף לפיכך הוצרך להסיען בעל כרחם
(1) And Moses led - (Mechilta) Moshe forced them against their will being that the Egyptian horses were crowned with Egyptian armor made from gold, silver and precious stones and they were now lying strewn on the banks of the sea. And you should know that the booty at the sea was far greater than the booty that the Jews left Egypt with, as the verse says in Shir HaShirim.
(38) And a mixed multitude also went up with them; and flocks, herds and very much cattle.
(א) וַיִּסַּ֤ע יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְכָל־אֲשֶׁר־ל֔וֹ וַיָּבֹ֖א בְּאֵ֣רָה שָּׁ֑בַע וַיִּזְבַּ֣ח זְבָחִ֔ים לֵא-לֹהֵ֖י אָבִ֥יו יִצְחָֽק׃ (ב) וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֱ-לֹהִ֤ים׀ לְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּמַרְאֹ֣ת הַלַּ֔יְלָה וַיֹּ֖אמֶר יַעֲקֹ֣ב׀ יַעֲקֹ֑ב וַיֹּ֖אמֶר הִנֵּֽנִי׃ (ג) וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אָנֹכִ֥י הָאֵ֖-ל אֱ-לֹהֵ֣י אָבִ֑יךָ אַל־תִּירָא֙ מֵרְדָ֣ה מִצְרַ֔יְמָה כִּֽי־לְג֥וֹי גָּד֖וֹל אֲשִֽׂימְךָ֥ שָֽׁם׃ (ד) אָנֹכִ֗י אֵרֵ֤ד עִמְּךָ֙ מִצְרַ֔יְמָה וְאָנֹכִ֖י אַֽעַלְךָ֣ גַם־עָלֹ֑ה וְיוֹסֵ֕ף יָשִׁ֥ית יָד֖וֹ עַל־עֵינֶֽיךָ׃
(1) And Yisroel took his journey with all that he had and came to Beer-Sheva, and offered sacrifices to the G-d of his father Isaac. (2) And G-d spoke unto Yisroel in the visions of the night, and said: ‘Yaakov, Yaakov.’ And he said: ‘Here I am.’ (3) And He said: ‘I am G-d, the G-d of your father; fear not to go down into Egypt; for I will make you into a great nation there. (4) I will go down with you into Egypt; and I will also surely bring you up again; and Joseph shall put his hand upon your eyes.’
(13) The righteous shall flourish like the palm-tree; He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
(ג) אשקא קא דריספק חריב ביתר דהוו נהיגי כי הוה מתיליד ינוקא שתלי ארזא ינוקתא שתלי תורניתא וכי הוו מינסבי קייצי להו ועבדו גננא
(3) In Bethar, they had a custom that when a baby boy was born, they planted a cedar tree and when a baby girl was born, they planted a pine tree. When the boy or girl would get married, the people would cut down their tree and use it for the wedding canopy.
