Ideal

(A) And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might ("meodecha" -- "veryness?").

(B) And these words, which I command you this day, shall be upon your heart;

(C) and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk on the way, and when you lie down, and when you get up.

(D) And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for frontlets ("totafot") between your eyes.

(E) And you shall write them on the door-posts of your house, and on your gates.

Alternative

(A) And it shall come to pass, if you shall listen diligently to My commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,

that I will give the rain of your land in its proper time, the early rain and the later rain, so you may gather in your grain and your wine, and your oil. And I will put grass in your fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied. Beware for yourselves, lest your heart be deceived and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them; and the LORD will be angry with you, and He will shut up the heaven so that there will be no rain, and the ground will not yield her fruit; and you will perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD gives you.

(B) And you shall place these words of mine on your heart and on your soul;

(D) and you shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes.

(C) And you shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk on the way, and when you lie down, and when you get up.

(E) And you shall write them on the door-posts of your house, and on your gates;

so that your days may be increased, and the days of your children, upon the land which the LORD swore to your forefathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: "Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, 'Make for yourselves throughout your generations fringes on the corners of your garments, and put with the fringe of each corner a thread of blue. And it will be to you for a fringe, and you will see it and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and you shall not follow after your heart and after your eyes, which you are used to following astray ("zonim achareihem"); so that you will remember and do all My commandments, and you will be holy for your God. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.'"
