(8) Amalek came and fought with Israel at Rephidim. (9) Moses said to Joshua, “Pick some men for us, and go out and do battle with Amalek. Tomorrow I will station myself on the top of the hill, with the rod of God in my hand.” (10) Joshua did as Moses told him and fought with Amalek, while Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. (11) Then, whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed; but whenever he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. (12) But Moses’ hands grew heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur, one on each side, supported his hands; thus his hands remained steady until the sun set. (13) And Joshua overwhelmed the people of Amalek with the sword. (14) Then the LORD said to Moses, “Inscribe this in a document as a reminder, and read it aloud to Joshua: I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven!”

His name wasn't changed to Joshua this point since he is referred to as Joshua earlier. Rather, the mane referred to as Hosheah son of Nun by his family was called Joshua by Moshe. The change had occurred already Moses appointed him as his servant to oversea his household. As was customary when promoting someone to seonc in command. E.g., when Pharaoh changed Joseph’s name to Tzofnat Paneach (Genesis 41,45); and when Nevuchadnezzar’s chief officer changed Daniel’s name to Belteshazzar (after their god), Daniel 1:6.

(6) And Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, of those who had scouted the land, rent their clothes (7) and exhorted the whole Israelite community: “The land that we traversed and scouted is an exceedingly good land.
...
(30) not one shall enter the land in which I swore to settle you—save Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun. ...
(37) those who spread such calumnies about the land died of plague, by the will of the LORD. (38) Of those men who had gone to scout the land, only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh survived.

(7) ... This is not only true for the monarchy but for all governing Positions and all appointments in Israel – a son inherits from his father, and so his son from him, forever. This is as long as the son follows in his father’s footsteps with regard to wisdom and awe. If the son was G-d-fearing but lacked wisdom, he is appointed to succeed his father, and trained. However, if he was not G-d-fearing, even though he was very wise, he is not appointed to a Position in Israel.

From where do we derive Goring? The Sages taught: “And if an ox gores...” (Ex. 21:28); and goring can only be with a horn, as it is states “And Zedekiah, son of Chenaanah, made himself horns of iron, and said: So says the Lord: With these shall you gore the Arameans,” (I Kings 22:11). And it says: “His firstborn bull, majesty is his, and his horns are the horns of the wild ox; with them he shall gore the nations” (Deut. 33:17). Why cite a second verse? And if you would say we do not derive Torah matters from the texts of the tradition, i.e., Prophets and Writings, come and hear proof from the Torah: “His firstborn bull, majesty is his.”
תורת משה קרויה תורה לפי שנתנה תורה לדורות ושל נביאים לא קרי אלא קבלה שקבלו מרוח הקדש כל נבואה ונבואה לפי צורך השעה והדור והמעשה:
The teaching of Moshe is called Torah (the Teaching) because it is given as a teaching for future generations. Books of Neviim are called Kabbala because each prophesy was received through divine inspiration according to the needs of that time, generation or event.

Rav Adda, son of Rabbi Ḥanina, said: Had Israel not sinned they would have been given the five books of the Torah and the book of Joshua alone. Joshua because it includes the arrangement of Eretz Yisrael. What is the basis? “For in much wisdom is much vexation” (Ecclesiastes 1:18). The wisdom that the Jews possess is learned from books of the Bible that reflect Divine anger.

Prophetic words are called "words of Kabbalah," for the prophets who complain (kovel) and rebuke about the troubles that appear to them in their visions. As Onkeles translates, "if they cry out to me (Ex. 22:22) as mikval, yikval.

(1) Moshe received the Torah from Sinai and transmitted it to Yehoshua, and Yehoshua to the Elders, and the Elders to the Prophets, and the Prophets transmitted it to the Men of the Great Assembly.
